So I heard back from most of my EA schools already, and i’m starting to narrow my selection. After going to a pretty dull HS, one of my top priorities in a college is school spirit. I know Tulane is DI, FBS, and in the AAC and everything, and I would imagine that the addition of Yulman stadium and the renovation of Devlin fieldhouse would muster up some more attendees, but the stadium looks half empty during football games on tv.Anyways, my questions are: is there a lot of school spirit at Tulane? Are the sports games well attended? Are there any campus/pre-game traditions?
My son graduated in 2014 and he said that people absolutely love the school and the city. Tulane has been ranked at No. 4 at having the happiest students in the country. The students, staff and administration feel a special connection to and responsibility toward the city of New Orleans and in building it back up and helping those less fortunate in the process. Hence its No. 5 ranking as having the students most involved in community service. So, to answer your overall question, school spirit at Tulane is very high. Now, regarding your follow-up questions regarding intercollegiate athletics, I will say this: with a new football coach coming in 2016, and a still new on-campus stadium and membership in a respectable football and basketball conference (containing the likes of U-Conn, Temple, Memphis, Cincinnati and Houston, to name a few), hope springs eternal that both programs will become perennial winners and that Yulman stadium will become a football mecca that fills up every game. (And BTW, baseball is currently ranked No. 19! ) However, if following a proven, consistent powerhouse for the rest of your life is important to you (nothing wrong with that), you do risk some disappointment if you attend school in the Big Easy. Not going to lie, sports games aren’t always poppin but that doesn’t mean we don’t have school spirit. People who go here really love it and I think that shows
