Hi, so I have already sent in my applications and I have been accepted to Wake Forest University, University of North Carolina, and University of Rochester. Recently, I was suspended for a day for being tardy multiple times to my English class. I have a feeling that this will be included on the end of year report that gets sent out to all of the colleges I have applied to.

My question is, should I be worried? Should I send out a letter to all of the colleges I applied to explaining this disciplinary violation?

Just explain the situation. Suspension for being tardy seems kind of harsh to me (unless you were tardy like 30 times or something) and I’m sure colleges will feel the same way too. I would definitely explain it ASAP though rather than waiting for the end of year report to go out.

Don’t send a letter. First, wait and speak with your high school guidance counselor. Ask
him/her if your 1-day suspension will be listed on your final transcript. Ask him/her if your school is going to make this simple 1-day suspension a part of your permanent record. Sometimes, high schools won’t make note of the suspension on their records if it was for something as slight as what you mentioned.

Even if you have to notify colleges, they aren’t likely to rescind your acceptances because of that. The suspensions/expulsions that concern colleges are those that indicate a reckless disregard for the law or could result in harm to property or people.

How could a suspension help somebody learn not to be tardy???

Sometimes I think consequences schools mete out are pretty hillarious. If your GC says this will be included in your end of year report, then you have to contact the schools where you were accepted to tell them of your “tardiness supsension” in order to see if any of them will withdraw thier acceptance…

You don’t want to accept Wake and deposit and then find out they won’t take you. Who knows what the reasonableness factor will be…pre-inform before you choose a school.
