I’m studing in a french highschool and I am about to apply for some US universities. The thing is, my school transcript is in french, do I have to translate it ? And if i do, can I do it by myself or should I ask my english teacher to do it for me ? I also need a letter of recommendation from my Guidance Counselor. Since she is a french speaker, can she send a french letter ?
For almost all universities, you will be required to send the original documentation with an English translation. This includes both transcripts and recommendations. In no instance should you translate it yourself; in some cases, the college will accept a translation from an English-speaking teacher or administrator, but many will require an outside translation.
Since the requirements will vary by college, you should contact the colleges in question and ask what their requirements are.
Definitely ask the college. When I was in Germany at one point I needed an official translation of my transcript. It turned out there were people with a special stamp that were certified to do this type of work.
