School visit

Hi, we are going for admitted student open house on Saturday. Will arrive Boston on Friday noon and leaving Sunday afternoon. The goal is to familiar with school surrounding. Any advice on what to see, eat, etc.

First time in Boston?

Museum of Fine Arts next to campus. Gardner Museum nearby.

North End for dining.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace.

What are your interests?

Yes, first time
Nothing specific but want to get a feeling for school surrounding.

Food trucks are good bet. They are out more now that the weather has cleared up. I also recommend visiting Newbury Street. Trident Cafe (On Newbury) has good food and it’s a neat bookshop. Boylston is a good street to be on too. Good shopping, cool views of the area. If you’re hear during the day time walking through the Fens is cool, though much nicer in the summer. Definitely don’t walk through there at night. The MFA is a good bet and the Museum of Science (closer to the North End) is interesting too.

I second what everyone above has said, but if you’ve got time I’m a bigger fan of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum than I am of the MFA personally. The MFA is definitely a great museum, but it’s got less of that unique and historic vibe that I think Boston has.

Since this is your first time to Boston, I would suggest that you take one of the many sightseeing tours by trolley or duck boat. Check them out on tripadvisor look for Boston Duck Tours (not sure they go in the water this time of year) or CityView Trolley Tours or Old Town Trolley Tours. Choose one that stops at your hotel, or covers the area in and around Northeastern. Some of them allow you to get on and off as you visit the sights.

I really like taking a tour like this in a new city because it can give you an overview of the city in an hour or two.

As others have mentioned, the Museum of Fine Arts is within walking distance of Northeastern. The North End is known for its restaurants, mainly Italian.

Look up the MBTA - the subway system, locally called the ‘T’. Very useful for traveling around the city. Northeastern is on the Green Line.

Faneuil Hall may be of interest to you. Best thing, check out Boston on tripadvisor and pick what interests you, museums, sightseeing, shopping etc.

Good luck.

All the Northeastern students will suggest the MfA because it’s free for us.
