schools comparable to Fordham

Does anyone know what schools are accedemically close to or equivalent to Fordham? I'm looking for a university that's about one step below ivy league (I think) and was wondering if thats what Fordham was.

One step below in what sense, academically, socially, economically, etc.???

Sorry, academically. Also, since Fordham is a Jesuit school, are there any kids who aren't Christian at the school and are other religions?

For business, I hear that Baruch College goes toe to toe with Fordham. I dont know if your looking for in state or out, but Boston College and Georgetown are all part of the same Jesuit association and are very similar in academics. In state, you also have NYU which I think its only more expensive than Fordham not superior academically, although they are more picky than Fordham when it comes to admissions.

In my opinion I would probably say that Fordham is maybe 2 steps removed from the Ivy ranking, and that’s because there are other schools not Ivy that have more of a vigorous admission process ala Stanford, Georgetown, Carnegie Mellon, etc. As far as classes are concerned, they are pretty tough. Those Jesuits dont play. My friend graduated a year ago and she has always been a great student back in H.S. but at Fordham she ended up always getting B's & C's.

As far as religion, the school accepts all denominations. I know for a fact that there are students of different faiths at campus because I've met a couple, but the student and faculty body is predominantly Irish & Italian Catholics. The college encourages people of all faiths to be a part of the tradition, and certainly to be a part of school clubs.

Every year the admission criteria at the college get a little tougher. The school is slowly expanding. The Lincoln Center campus will be constructing a new building to house more dorms and new classrooms.

WOWOWOW....Fordham 2 steps below Ivy? I don't know on what you base that statement...

so where would you place it?

Well USnews puts in 70th next to IU-Bloomington
I think it deserves more than that, don't get me wrong it's a good school.
It's not particularly hard to get into.

I never said it rank #2, I said it is 2 steps removed; meaning Tier 2 category, which USNEWS confirms it.

My mistake

Fordham's acceptance rate this yr. was 43 percent with an average sat score of 1260. It's not harvard, but it's definitely not easy to get into-- soon it will be right on par with NYU.

Well I think its 100x easier to get into Fordham than NYU

Do you think its easier to transfer to Georgetown or BC from Fordham than from anywhere else?

Yes-the simple answer is it is probably easier to transfer into BC or Georgetown from Fordham or Fairfield, fellow Jesuit schools, than non-affiliated schools of similar caliber. Absolutely. However most students do not transfer. You may be surprised but considering the opportunities of NYC, most Fordham students are not transferring to begin with, and if they do it is for another NYC school and many times for financial reasons.

wow, you guys just made me feel 100x better about fordham
I'm going there in the fall after being waitlisted from BC
and I've been super bummed because my general impression of fordham has been no one's impressed which i could give 2 @#%!s about (if u know what I mean) but I was really wary about my decision
but if its soon to be on par with NYU thats great and i was actually thinking of transferring to georgetown and its nice to know that i have slightly higher chances (which may not mean a whole lot but whatevs its nice 2 know)

just to know, if georgetown, fordham, fairfield, and bc were ranked, what would the order be (academically)
and do you think it would be a smarter decsion and/or are chances better to transfer to georgetown or go there for grad school (either SFS or MSB)

Fordham is in NO WAY on par with schools like BC and NYU. NYU is known throughout the world and is very diverse, having a world renowned business program, top 5 Law program, #1 math and philosophy programs. Fordham is placed along with the likes of state schools bing, Geneseo.

And I wonder where you're getting your source of information XSUUBIEX?

You don't have to answer that, just make sure you double check your sources!

NYU's philosophy department has been ranked # 1 in the U.S.. The economics department is considered top 10-15. The politics department is ranked in the top 20 annually, and its International Relations program is ranked 10th nationwide. NYU's Steinhardt School of Education is ranked among the Top 15 Schools for education and teaching . The Wagner Graduate School of Public Service has the highest-ranked Health Policy and Management program in the country. The Courant Institute is also considered to be one of the best mathematics departments in the country, ranking #5 in citation impact, and #1 in applied mathematics.

John Nash, (a beutiful mind) Studed at NYU.
So did a bunch of famous filmmakers

Once NYU begins filling more than 68% of students need the will surley rise in the rankings for U-grad, currently 37ish? Although my financial aid package from NYU was comparable to 'generous' schools' packages

wow, xsuubiex, like nyu much? haha
you don't have to be so defensive
but best of luck

wow, xsuubiex, like nyu much? haha

haha..sure seems like he has his facts in order, doesn't it

While NYU does have a bigger name now, fordham had a much bigger name up until twenty or so years ago. In nyc it was always columbia then fordham then cuny hunter then cuny baruch then NYU; NYU has certainly pumped alot of money into itself and has expanded greatly and now its a very impressive school.

Yea.. how can Fordham be even compared to NYU.. NYU is like up up up there and Fordham.. not so much. NYU used to be a regular school, now its extremely selective. the us news ranking just puts it at a low spot cause of its crap financial aid. it would probably replace emory at 20 if it wasn't for that..
