Im interested in majoring in mechanical engineering, particularly at either stevens or nyu poly. Do you know of other engineering schools that are of similar caliber academically?

Thanks :)

Im interested in majoring in mechanical engineering, particularly at either stevens or nyu poly. Do you know of other engineering schools that are of similar caliber academically?

Thanks :)

What characteristics of school besides engineering majors are you looking for?

The characteristics these schools have in common seem to be:

Small (but PINYU is now part of the much larger NYU).

Engineering focused.

In or near New York city.

Private.

Expensive.

Are any of these important to you?

@ucbalumnus I mean in terms of Rep, highschool GPA, and sat math score range mostly.

@ucbalumnus
Im looking for a strong engineering school yes. Doesnt have to be private, id prefer it to be in / near: NYC, philly

Schools with engineering in or near New York or Philadelphia besides NYU and Stevens:

City College of New York
College of Staten Island
College of New Jersey
Columbia
Cooper Union
Drexel
New Jersey Institute of Technology
Rowan
Rutgers - New Brunswick
SUNY Maritime
Stony Brook
Swarthmore
Temple

@ucbalmunus thanks a lot! Do you have any personal recommendations from
that list…? Which have similar sat scores and such to stevens and nyu poly?

I’d add Manhattan College to the list

And @Happysteve – you can google class profile of each school, check in some college guide books, and/or check your HS Naviance system to get average stats for each college.

Olin, Case Western Reserve, RPI, Kettering.

@cle4life what is your opinion on RPI? Is it harder to get into than stevens and nyu or around the same?

RPI is almost exclusively engineering, certainly what they are known for and are predominantly an undergraduate school. NYU is more of a traditional with broad offerings with a more substantial graduate program. RPI has slightly lower statistics. I don’t know much about Stevens. On the list I mentioned Kettering is certainly easier. It is well regarded as an undergraduate school and the coop is a nice aspect.

@cle4life okay thanks!

RPI, Stevens and WPI are very similar to each other - visiting is the only way to differntiate
As stated above, WPI and RPI are similar in terms of admissions statistics and they’re both engineering focused. They’re not in huge/exciting cities. I don’t know if that’s important to you.
