Schools similar to William and Mary

Any suggestions for colleges that have the same vibe as William and Mary? W&M is a crap shoot for OOS females, so are ther any colleges that attract a similar type of student and have a similar feel? Thanks for any suggestions.

Similar in what respect?
How would you characterize the vibe you want?

Medium-sized school, beautiful campus, students who are more on the serious side and not known as huge partiers, but who still have fun and have lots of school spirit. Hope that helps capture the vibe. For example, Northwestern has the size and academics, but is also known for a huge party scene and a very predominant greek scene (not trying to avoid greek life, just looking for a more mellow presence.)
Thanks!

I’d say its closest relative would be Wake Forest University. Have you looked at that?

i would suggest brown, dartmouth, duke, emory, vanderbilt. just because a school has a greek scene doesn’t mean you have to participate in the greek scene.

Thank you for the suggestions — loved Duke, but hadn’t considered Wake Forest or Emeroy. Will look into both! I know you don’t have to participate in the greek scene, but some campuses do seem to center social life predominantly around greek life and others have a much less imposing presence. Looking for a less imposing presence, whether joining or not.

Much apprecation for the suggestions!

Colgate, perhaps. It’s on the large size among LACs and is often cited for having one of the most beautiful campuses.

Bucknell too. BTW, Wake’s very Greek-dominated.

University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. Maybe St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Maybe The College of New Jersey (TCNJ).

Might look at Holy Cross-similar to W&M with repsect to academics and athletics. HC has nice campus 1 hour from Boston. Holy Cross is need blind for financial aid(same as Duke&Ivies). Colgate and Bucknell have greek life and locations are remote.

The University of Richmond and WM have always seemed very similiar to me.

Thank you for all these suggestions! Several schools that I am not at all familiar with, and am going to research now.

WM is a tough admit for in-state females too. U might check U of Rochester, Hopkins, CMU, Case.

Rice, Dartmouth, Brown, Davidson, Wake Forest, Georgetown, Chicago, Haverford, Amherst, Claremont Consortium, Duke, Vanderbilt.

Can’t really understand why W&M attracts so many more females than males … too bad for OOS girls!! Certainly not a school to get your heart set on.

^^^^^^ par72 - what does this mean and how is that even possible?

“Holy Cross is need blind for financial aid(same as Duke&Ivies).”

I think it must mean that they’ll accept you no matter what your finances are, and provide financial aid up to whatever your EFC states you need, whereas some less financially secure or generous colleges could offer far less to a needy student (i.e; NYU).

Recently visited Dickinson (in Pennsylvania) and the campus reminded me very much of William & Mary.

Thanks, Endicott - I know many schools are need blind for admissions, but couldn’t fathom how they could be need blind for financial aid.
