Schools that don't rank

I go to a private prep school that doesn't rank it's students. If you are in the top 10%, would it have a negative effect on your application as it's one less category to judge you with?

Do you mean your high school doesn't give you a rank, but DOES give you an official decile rank?

If so, and you're in the top 10%, it shouldn't hurt you. Although it does give people who can say they're Valedictorian or top 2% a small edge over you.

Competitive schools do not need rankings or deciles. They (the admissions officers) know most all of the schools from which students come - its their job. It is an efficient market, so to speak. I wouldn't worry about - most students know the range of schools they might be admitted to, and hence ought to plan accordingly.

Thanks for the answer, and no, they give no ranking at all.

i came from a not well known prep school that REFUSED to rank. In my recommendations, my teachers discussed how I was going to be valedictorian, so that got the point across.
