Schools with good music department

Hi I’m a junior and since the school’s ending in few weeks, I’m trying to figure out the schools I will be applying for. I would like to know all the schools that have good music department. Schools with not just good music performance program, but the ones that have good musical and music education programs. My main interest right now is music education, but I want to join symphony orchestra or any ensembles and also play for opera or musical performances in the pit. I am not looking for very academic schools, since my gpa is not too high, but I’m looking for schools that is affordable. My main instrument is flute, and I understand the schools’ music program level is different by instruments, so if you could take that as a consideration when making suggestions, that would be great. Thank you so much.

If you share in which state you live and where you are interested in attending school, we can give you some suggestions. In general, affordable choices are your instate public colleges offering music ed. Most music ed schools have a variety of ensembles. Your GPA might be a problem since most music ed schools do look at grades. Flute is more competitive than some other instruments so if you indicate your playing level that will help us with suggestions.

I live overseas, but i have residency in Virginia. The thing is that I don’t really want to go to virginia state. My GPA is about 3.3. I took two ap classes this year and will be taking two next year so I’m hoping that will bring my GPA up a little. About my playing level, I’ve played Faure Fantasy, Chaminade Concerto, Enesco Cantabile, and I’m thinking about playing Poulenc Sonata for the audition.
