Schools with rolling admissions

According to BoardingSchoolReview.com's advanced search engine (there are a lot of them).

There are a lot - including my perennial underdog favorite: Governor's in Massachusetts and some surprises like Northfield Mount Herman. Sometimes it just takes a phone call to see if there's still spots available.

Good luck!

I know I’m repeating what I’ve posted on other threads, but we as a family have had great experiences with junior boarding schools. For those applying to 8th or 9th, I’d suggest a year at one of these schools demonstrating that you can thrive as a boarder with all the new responsibilities. You then reapply for the next grade up next autumn. Schools you might consider:

Coed: Bement and Fay
Boys: Cardigan Mountain School and Eaglebrook.

Good luck!

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. If you are looking for a bs after M10, pick up the phone. Got a particular niche? Athletes, especially. Call the coach FIRST. You will be surprised to know how otherwise closed doors can open. We started calling schools in late April and we were surprised that two, Pomfret and Millbrook, hadn’t filled their classes yet. Call around. Be ready to give general info, ssat scores, etc. Don’t just assume that every school is filled.
The most important advice I would give, is to step outside of your comfort zone. Look at other schools. Sure, the Hades schools are probably not going to roll out the welcome mat, so look at others.

To add to zuzu, when we had multiple WL 2 years ago, I sent emails to the DOA at several other schools (Pomfret, Berkshire, NMH, Westminister, Kent and Westover), along with a 1 page summary (resume of sorts) summarizing D’s grades, tests, ECs and accomplishments/interests. I got very quick, and very interested responses from these schools. WL at Top/HADES, for us, translated to very excited about D (and acceptances) at other schools. If there are other schools you would consider, reach out.

To echo kraordrawoh, we too have been very pleased with junior boarding school. We’re at different schools - same great experience. I will just add that some of the JBS do prefer to have a kid for two years though. Best to call & ask.

WOW! I must say that I am really surprised to hear about the rolling admissions/still open spots at schools like governor’s, NMH, Pomfret, Westy, Kent… Those are all schools that students on this board often report a WL at M10.
I guess I am a little confused. Glad to see that it worked out for other families. Not really sure if I want to open up that can of worms or sit on my (son’s) waitlist…

Yes, there was an interesting thread about this very thing in the last year or two. People were talking about how some late applicants were offered admission even though the school had a WL. And that even schools which don’t advertise openings sometimes have them. These weren’t the HADES schools, of course, but some very good schools indeed.

Enrollment, up until probably late August, is a very fluid entity at most, if not all, boarding schools. One grade may be full while a spot or two may exist in other grades. You never know unless you call. And it changes from girl vs. boy. A 10th grade girl might be told the class is full while a there are still openings for 10th grade boys. You can’t go by what you necessarily read here. You really have to call.
For the record, my son applied late as a jr. We were lucky that year.

Good points, zuzu.

what is rolling admission?

It means the school will consider applications submitted after their initial deadline until all spots are filled, – or – that they don’t have a fixed deadline and decide on applications as they come in.
