Schools

Hello, I am wondering whether these schools would be a good fit for me and what my chances are. I am a white 14 year old girl from a small town in coastal Maine. I am very involved. I am a member of student council, the empty bowl, and do a sport every season. I have a gpa of 3.671 and am taking all honors classes at my local high school. The schools I'm applying to are St. Marks (Grandfather is a trustee, sister graduated last year), St. Georges (nine family members attended), Holderness (sister is a student), Brooks, and Tabor Academy. Are there any other schools I should be looking at, or ones that I listed that are not a good fit? Thanks! Also, I am applying as a new 10th grader, so if you know how many new sophomores each school takes, that'd be great info!

Bump!!!

Okay, first . . . a little patience, please. We’re not all here 24 hours/day!

Second, if your user name is, in fact, your real name, please leave, get yourself a new anonymous user name, wait a few days until this thread disappears into obscurity, and then start over again with far fewer details about who you are and where you come from. For your own good, your posts here should be sufficiently obscure when it comes to personal details so as to prevent anyone from putting 2 and 2 together and figuring out who you are.

Beyond that, I’m afraid I can’t be much help. None of us knows you well enough to tell you whether a particular school would be a good fit for you or not. But what I would suggest is that you spend some time browsing [Boarding School Review](<a href=“Boarding School Search Results”>Boarding School Search Results) and see what schools look interesting to you. You can make the task a bit easier by limiting your search to schools within a certain distance of your home.

The schools you listed are all good choices . . . but they are also very different from each other! Try to figure out what you - and not your sisters or other family members - are looking for in a school. You might find that your best fit is a different school altogether.

Just for fun, why don’t you take a look at Asheville, Thacher, Millbrook, and Northfield Mount Hermon? I am not saying that any of these is right for you . . . but they’ll give you some idea of the variety of different schools out there.

About 10th grade . . . you’d have to ask each school how many students they usually admit into 10th grade. Another option, though, would be to apply as a repeat 9th grader. There’s no stigma attached to doing this . . . it just gives you a chance to experience the full four-year program at whatever school you end up attending. And it can make admission a bit easier. Again, ask the school if it’s something they’d recommend.

Cheers to dodgersmom for fielding many of the open questions posed by new posters.

Here’s an observation based on scanning many of the new threads —*I don’t think the majority of new posters use the search tool. Use. The. Search. Tool. First.

Another observation: I don’t think many new posters read this thread before posting:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/427714-if-youre-new-cc-please-read-before-posting.html</a> They should.

@sashajones97 (and several others over the past few weeks): Don’t freak if nobody responds to your post within 30 seconds. I’ve been on the board for over a year, and very few threads seem to go unanswered here.
