Hey so i have nvr visited vanderbilt but i was told that i need more of a reach school and i like vanderbilt so far. i noticed online that it has many schools like college of arts and science, peabody college, and schools of engineering, ect. Do we have to apply to a school when we apply to the university or can we apply undecided and take classes in all the schools? Essentially I want to know how Vanderbilt works academically

You must apply to one of the 4 undergradute schools (A&S, Peabody, Engineering or Blair). Moving between the schools except Blair is very easy and basically only requires that you be in good standing. The engineering requirements for graduaution are pretty stringent so if you are considering engineering you will need to decide by the end of freshman year at the latest (or take summer classes). Blair is different as it requires auditions for majors and minors in that school. As for a major, you can indicate your intent but you do not declare a major when applying. When it is time to register for classes, you will have a faculty adviser who will review your choices and help to make sure you remain on track. There are a lot of choices and you will be allowed to take coarses outside the specific school you are in. I would recommend visiting to get a better feel if Vandy is a good option for you. I think it is great in every aspect but I am biased. Hope this helps and best of luck!
