I am trying to increase my chances of getting in by applying to the teaching school. But I am not sure how easy it is to transfer to another school because I do not want to stay there. I want to go to the engineering school. Should I just apply to the engineering school and hope I get in? Or should I apply to an easier school to get in and hope I can transfer?

I guess the question is if I can transfer from the Peabody School for teaching to the School of Engineering?

If you want to do engineering, you need to start there. If your past coursework and ECs don't support a Peabody application, you'll actually be hurting your chances by applying to Peabody. The admissions folks aren't stupid about people who think this is a good strategy!

What 2VU0609 posted is true. Not a good strategy at all.

well my past coursework can go either way. Also last summer I taught English to poor students in Poland. So I do have a back round in teaching. But I would rather pursue engineering so i need to know if its possible to transfer.

I considered doing the exact same thing. I already applied, EDI, and I ended up applying to the school of Engineering anyways. I had a lot of "love for kids" stand out parts on my application so I considered applying to Peabody because my scores were not up in the Engineering range. I talked to the admissions counselor that visited my school about this and she basically said that I could technically apply to Peabody and transfer into Engineering, but it is very difficult. She also said that my chances for Engineering were strengthened by the fact that I am a female, so I ultimately made the decision to apply to what I truly wanted to do at Vanderbilt.

Ok thanks, thats good to know. I did a lot of "love for kids" stuff as well. What were your scores like because I'm a male so it sounds like its more difficult. Do you know if maybe there is another school that might be easier to transfer out of and into to the School of Engineering?

Well the middle 50% for Vandy ACT was 31-34. For engineering, the average SAT last year (so I've read) was a 1450. I have like a 30 ACT and 1370 SAT, so my scores are pretty low. It might totally screw me for getting in, but I'm really hoping other parts of my application compensate, such as my class rank (top 2 %).

Horrible strategy not to mention inconsiderate to Vanderbilt's culture.

I have more than 10 engineering friends who suffer from a huge workload. Intra trasferring from other college is never a good idea for engineering school. However, Arts&Science may be considerable.

Yeah that isn't a good idea. I applied ED1 to the engineering school, not thinking my scores were good enough, but i still got accepted. I applied with a 27 ACT score so I think you should apply and see what happens.
Good Luck

Yeah, I think this is kind of cheating the system, not to mention it would be such a hassle to transfer once you got there.

But I'm also a female looking at a major in Engineering at a few schools, is it really easier for females to get in?
