Schreyer Honors College- Penn State Class of 2021

Who all applied/ is applying? How long were your essays? How many students generally apply? Best of luck to you!

Last year about 4k students applied. ^

Good luck to everyone, and don’t be discouraged if you don’t get an offer of admission at this time. Schreyer admissions are incredibly subjective and I’ve seen very smart people not get in. They’re still intelligent, still talented, still people I am proud to know. (Also, gateway admissions in future years is always an option…)

Did anyone else apply?

Bump…

Class of 2020 here.

My essays were about 2-pages each, but I think two important things are:
–Follow the prompt and deeply analyze it (connect it to personal experience, etc).
–Be yourself in the essays, don’t over-dramatize your actions.

Just got notified that decisions will be out on Monday, March 13 at 3:30 p.m. Good luck!

My son applied. heres hoping!

rejected. Surprised, but now I know PSU isn’t an option.

@KG5APR The schreyers scholarship is not really that much money. Was it the difference between attending and not attending for you? Sorry you didn’t get in. Remember, Schreyer is arbitrary. The essay is the most important thing over GPA or test scores.

@jlhpsu Yes, the combination of being waitlisted from MSP and rejected from Schreyer makes PSU unaffordable. My essays were better than some of those I have seen from people who got in. PM me if you would like to read them. I have unfortunately encountered that the standard for OOS is higher than for instate students.

@KG5APR The standard is not so much higher, as the standards are subjective with Schreyer. Meaning, depending on who reads the essay and who interviews you, the decisions can vary. In fact, PSU likes OOS students because they pay a much higher tuition…so OOS usually doesn’t hurt you at Penn State. I’m sorry you didn’t get into Schreyer. I’m sure you will find a great school if PSU is unaffordable - which it is for many OOS students (And In State too…we have the second highest public tuition in the COUNTRY…with Pitt being #1)
