That was a typo, haha.

It's all good :-)

Reasonabledad-
It's for each year. Taken directly from my letter, "The College of Engineering Scholarship is in the amount of $6,000 per year, and is also renewable, provided that you maintain a 3.33 grade-point average after each year." Then it goes on to explain that it's contingent upon my enrollment in the College of Engineering.

Why do I think I got extra money? Well, I suppose I'm pretty well-rounded; however, I don't have a specific "hook" or anything. 1480 on the old SAT scale and somewhere in the 2200s on the new ones (I forget the exact number). Top 1% of my school. No huge extracurricular's or anything. I don't think my essays could have been that great because I didn't spend much time on them and I wrote them just before they were due, but who knows? I did apply for a scholarship for which the application was due on February 1st. I believe it is called the Leonhard Scholarship, but I don't know if this has any correlation with that because I would think that if I received that particular scholarship it would say "you have been selected for the Leonhard Scholarship" rather than just a generic scholarship from the College of Engineering. Plus, I believe that's for $2,500 a year.

Bill_smear - Wow, I can't believe you got rejected with those stats. If it's any consolation, a lot of people in my school who I think are extremely smart and very well-qualified with good scores, good grades, and good extracurriculars also got rejected.

Maybe they rejected people that they thought would turn them down, especially those that didn't apply for the higher scholarships?

That doesn't make too much sense though, as it's a state school and shouldn't have policies like that. Oh well, I'm happy though :-)

It says that I got $3500 a year. What's the most you can get?
Also, my acceptance letter was addressed to somebody else. Her last name is alphabetically close to mine, so I figured that there was a mailing error (the name on the envelope is correct). Did this happen to anybody else?

I would call SHC about this just to be sure!

Yes, you better call to check. I would think that the name on the letter is probably correctly matched to the decision. Of course, hopefully you BOTH got in!

Wow that's really bad...
Hopefully the mixup can be corrected. Good luck!
Maguo did you apply for braddock? Do you want to go to schreyer, like is at or near the top of your list?

Maguo! ~ I would guess that you are reading the admission letter of another student, so yours is probably in the hands of someone else too...you need to contact Schreyers and see if they can tell you what your particular situation is. But with your scores, grades, and honors I would be stunned if you were not admitted!

Everyone admitted to Schreyers is getting the $3,500 this year as a minimum. A few are getting some extra money to sweeten the deal.

I did email Schreyers this morning.
This is what I got in return:

Thank you for your email, please accept our apologies for the mix up with the mailing. You are still accepted to the Schreyer Honors College and having realized our mistake a replacement letter was mailed to you to yesterday to confirm your acceptance offer.

Braddock Scholarships will be reviewed next week, so you should be hearing shortly from The Eberly College of Science.

I'm actually hoping that the $3500 was not mine; I would certainly want a lot more. If anybody lives in Mountain Top, PA and has initials THG, I have your letter!

To answer ridethecliche, PSU is not my top school. I've loved PSU from childhood, but I would like to go to a slightly stronger college after all my effort in high school. However, with a Braddock scholarship, PSU will look very favorable.

Um I have friends who already got the Braddock Scholarship. And yeah I know what you mean. I'm Rank one in my school and I really want to go to University of Chicago, just because that's where I know i'll be able to fit in and learn best. Schreyer is a great program though, and I wouldn't consider a 'not' strong college. The grad school %'s are very good, yet I'm unsure of what they entail and I think they might be slightly misleading.
I'm going in for a 3-4 day visit later this month, it should be fun to sit in on honors/regular classes and see what it's really like.
Good luck with braddock.
