Science Speed?

So i'm having the most problems with the science section mainly because i cannot finish in the time limit or i rush too fast and answer too many incorrectly. Usually, i read the entire passage and then attempt to answer ( i have a pretty good reading speed). But this strategy unfortunately doesn't work out so well. So then i tried just reading the questions then analyzing the charts. This way supplies ample time, but i miss key information for the questions.

I'm wondering what's your strategy for tackling the Science section?

Thanks for helping me out.

go very fast. don't read the paragraphs. go straight to the questions.

i go straight to the questions on all of the passages unless there is a scientist 1 vs. scientist 2 passage.. on that type of passage i very quickly read the two paragraphs for the scientists and then go into the question.. other than that type of passage, though, i just dive straight into the questions

I have this same question.

Yeah, I'm not sure about science strategy too. I usually have to work up until the last minute and don't finish properly, or I don't finish at all (first time I took a real ACT I didn't even get to do the last passage.

I just took a practice science section from the 08-09 ACT practice test from the website, and I got 2 wrong, both of which were really, really dumb mistakes. 1 of them I had the right answer in my head and circled the wrong one, the other I looked at for about 10 seconds and answered correctly, and so I think I misread the question. However, I actually managed to finish this time with 3 minutes left over. I didn't check my answers though (SHOULD HAVE :P)

Right now I just feel like I should shoot for under 5 minutes for each passage (since there are 7), and usually the last passage is the most difficult one (at least that's how I feel), so that might take extra. Then, I should go back and check.

Anyone else have advice?

Kaplan says to try and not go over 5 minutes a passage (simple math.. lol 35/7).
unless you are a speed reading god, going at the questions first seems like the only way to get it all done.

also - if you have little time and are on the sci 1 v sci 2 passage, find questions that refer to certain things and find them in the paragraphs. i did that with like 3 minutes left and got 4 or so questions.

I sometimes go straight to the questions, but then I feel like I Have to eventually read something in the passage(with graphs), otherwise I'll miss some really important piece of information.

Generally, the paragraphs contain background info that just isn't necessary to answer the questions; they're there to trip you up. Go straight to the questions- 90% of the time the answer is in the graphs. If you can't answer the question with only the graphs, then go look at the paragraphs.

I took a state ACT in March and got a 34 in science without reading; in June, I got a 28, with reading.

^ yeah, i got a 36 science in february without reading a thing. it's all in the graphs. maybe a few random answers in the text, but those are definitely not the norm.

Dont read the passage, just skim through it.

I always read through the intro paragraphs, because I feel as if they always paint the whole picture of what the given experiment is based on. I can make it on time, BARELY though, by giving 5 minutes per passage.
