Sciences at Wellesley?

How good/bad are they?
Would they get you into a good grad school?

The sciences at Wellesley are very strong: our science center has state-of-the-art equipment for undergrad research, and most science majors work in a lab related to their area of study. If there’s a class you want to take that’s unavailable at Wellesley, you can cross-register at MIT. I’d encourage you to check out the course catalogue, as well as different departments’ websites: [Course Catalog | Wellesley College - Wellesley College](http://new.wellesley.edu/academics/catalog)

In regards to graduate school, I can give you statistics I’ve learned as a student admissions representative. ~66% of Wellesley students who apply to grad school are accepted to their first choice school. 80% of all Wellesley graduates eventually gain a postgraduate degree. Our medical school acceptance rate is around 75% (the national average for other schools is 45%). Generally speaking, most universities know that Wellesley is a rigorous college and understand that its graduates are able to handle difficult graduate work.

If it’s possible, you should consider doing an overnight visit at Wellesley and attending a couple of classes. If you have any questions, just shoot me a PM! :)

thanks. I am thinking of majoring in biology. I’ve always loved Wellesley, and i plan on touring it this year.
Does anyone know generally what kind of Subject Tests (if any) Wellesley likes to see?

Wellesley requires two subject tests. It’s probably best to take tests that relate to what you want to study. There are two biology subject tests, so you might consider taking those. Also, I’m sure tests such as chemistry and math would be sufficiently relevant to your major. Basically, you should take whatever it is you’re most comfortable with. :)

I just finished sophomore year and I took the Biology E Subject test and got a 750…
is that generally good enough for a school like Wellesley?

@2014nhs, definitely! I think subject tests are a factor of admission, but a significant one. I got a 630 (embarrassed since I want to major in Biochemistry…) on my Biology M Subject test and I still got in. So kudos to you!

@2014nhs - that’s a fine score! My D also only scored a 660 (or something just under 700) on the Bio subject test (also wanting to major in Bio related) and will be attending in the fall.

Be well rounded and let your essays speak!

2014nhs: A 750 in a very nice score. Ensure those those essays are just as strong!

AH yay. When is generally the best time to tour? My Dad plans on taking on me multiple trips throughout the year, do different areas, so when will give me the best feel of the campus?

summer is not a good time to get a feel for it - that is when D and I went the first time and she had all but ruled it out. Coach talked her into giving it a second chance and come during the fall for a recruiting weekend and attend a class - made a huge difference (obviously) because she chose Wellesley over all! I would say anytime during the school year so you can do a tour, sit in on a class and see it when kids are going about their day!
