Sciences Po Columbia Dual BA 2016 Entry

Just contacted for an interview as well! I don’t believe every applicant is selected for an interview but I’m not sure just how selective it is. The website says “Interviews are only scheduled on a case-by-case basis by the Dual BA Program admissions committee; it is not possible for applicants to arrange an interview without the request of the committee. All candidates invited for an interview will be notified in early February.”

I just got contacted for the interview, as well! Wow, it’s only two weeks away, too :open_mouth:

I’m sure this will put some of you at ease a bit. I was talking to a few students who are currently in the program, and one of them told me, “If you are invited to an interview, you are likely to be admitted. Fewer than 25% of interviewees are cut from the pool.” Now, this is a student and not an admissions representative, but it’s still a bit reassuring; there seemed to be similar thoughts on last year’s thread about most interviewees getting in.

OK, so these are the numbers that I know (they’re approximate, I think this is what the admissions committee was planning on for this year):
400 applicants
150-165 selected for interviews
95 accepted
I hope this helps. I got an interview too! I’m so excited!!! Good luck to everyone! And share any interview preparations you may have

Hey, I got one! Means that I must apply for scholarships like mad yes.

I got an interview!!! I’m so excited and nervous!! Good luck everyone!

Waiting/hoping DS gets contacted for an interview. The admissions folks told us the week of Feb 8 was their target.

I just got my interview invitation as well, congrats on everyone else who got theirs! how are you guys preparing?

nothing here :frowning: I don’t have much hope though I submitted my application very close to the deadline and that so many emails can’t be sent in a day. My grades are probably not good enough.

@MYOS1634 Yes, Berkeley wrote somewhere on their website that they rarely give scholarships to international students so I didn’t apply. Do you know if this program send “rejected” letters or “no news” mean “bad news” simply? Anyway good luck to you all and congratulation for those who got the interview!!

I got an interview as well! so excited. but i don’t know if i could actually attend, because France holds an unfavorable visa policy for Chinese students, so there might be a high possibility that get rejected for visa. That’s why i have UCLA as my “parallel” first choice, as i want to major in linguistics. Good luck to everyone!

Just got an interview as well! Congratz to everyone, hope we can use this thread to prepare and share info.

For those of you that have gotten an interview with Columbia or Berkeley, does that mean that you’re already accepted by Columbia and Berkeley as well (even if you don’t get accepted to the dual program with Sciences Po)?

@CalBearsMom
I can’t speak for Berkeley, but for Columbia, being granted an interview does not mean you are accepted to Columbia. You cannot apply to Columbia and the Dual BA program - just one or the other, so you are only considered a Dual BA applicant. If you are rejected for the Dual BA Program, you won’t be considered for Columbia.

Very excited that I got an interview offer! This is my first choice and I am looking forward to being able to express my interest before the interviewers.

@lineal I’m not 100% sure about the rejection letters, but I read from a thread from last year that a few students found out their decision on the Application Status page before receiving anything through email.

They send an email to check the portal whether you get an interview or not. Getting an interview means you are a finalist but it does not mean you are in.

Hi everyone, Berkeley - Sciences PO applicant here (I applied to Columbia College instead of Columbia - Sciences PO). I had my interview two weeks ago and was accepted today to the Dual Degree program. Even though the interview was for Berkeley - Sciences PO, I assume the interviews for Columbia - Sciences PO are quite similar. Anyways, if you have any questions about the interview feel free to ask!

@pr0crastinator Congratulation! Could you please share with us the interview questions you’ve got, the intensity(or vibe) of the interview and how did you prepare it? Thanks very much!

@HectoraB Thanks! I really didn’t do much to prepare besides reading over my “Why Berkeley - Sciences PO” essay (staying true to my username). It was pretty chill, over video chat with only two interviewers: one from the Berkeley campus and one from Sciences PO Le Havre campus. Some questions I remember: [ul]
[] Why are you interested in the program?
[
] Brought up a religious interest I mentioned in my essay and asked me to compare that religion’s experience/culture to the Chinese experience/culture (my essay discussed my interest in Chinese language and politics).
[] Asked me if I thought a socialist could be elected and be effective as President in the US.
[
] Asked if I thought the US would be better off had the South successfully seceded in the Civil War.
[li] Asked how I would adjust to life in France (I have zero French background and don’t speak any French).[/li][/ul]
Afterwards I had time to ask a couple questions, and they had to end the interview after 30-35 minutes. Overall it wasn’t a typical college interview, because they were clearly checking if I could think on my feet, analyze current events, and understand diverse cultures. But I don’t think they were trying to “test” me; they seemed primarily interested in seeing how I think. I did feel a little underdressed - I was just wearing a polo and one of them had a tie and the other had a jacket. Don’t stress about it too much! They are already very interested in you if you have an interview. I don’t think there’s much you can do to prepare besides for knowing exactly why you are interested in the program.
