Sciences Po Columbia Dual BA 2016 Entry

@AllisonNelson You applied early action to Georgetown, right? I am freaking out because I applied regular and didn’t hear back from them yet. Columbia dual program and Georgetown are my top 2 choices (with a little edge in Columbia’s favor). But essentially, I loved them both when I visited. If accepted, I will see you at one or the other

@DualDegreeSeeker Yes! I got accepted to the School of Foreign Service. Is that the school you applied to? I’m asking, because it seems very comparable to the dual-degree programs in terms of the international experience. But yeah, we seem to be in the same boat! I absolutely looooooooooove Georgetown especially now after the accepted student’s weekend. If you end up going to Georgetown, I think you will have the same feeling  It really is an amazing community!

@AllisonNelson I’ve got offers from Kings and Surrey in the UK, and also Bocconi in Italy. Waiting to hear back from Princeton and another multi-uni program I applied to - the world bachelor in business between USC, HKUST, & Bocconi. Columbia-Sciences Po would be my top choice right now, so I’m really anxious to see if I got in!

I just got in to Pomona College yesterday. I was in noooo way expecting to be accepted, and that decision blew my mind. So now I’m having a rly rly hard choice to make: Dual BA program which will better prepare me for the job market, give me a special and unique undergrad experience and stduy in my favorite country frnace; while Pomona which offer the best undergrad education in US, great foundation in masters studies, and typical American experience. Now my family’s tensely divede with me wanting to go to Pomona and my parents Dual BA. And what annoys me more is that my parents don’t read English so all they care abt is rankings rankings rankings. We can’t travel to US neither. So what do I do???

@vossari You have some interesting schools you are considering. Where are you located?

@HectoraB Wow, omg, that’s amazing! Congratulations, you should be incredibly proud of yourself!

Honestly, you should really just go with your heart. I know it’s bad to say not to listen to your parents, but (by your account) they aren’t considering all of the factors that go into such a decision, and, frankly, it’s your future to shape, not theirs. My dad was pretty hands-off and ignorant about my college search process, and my mom also only cared about rankings. She looked down on Sciences Po and UBC at first, as she had never heard of them, which to her meant they were worthless. (She really was only into Sciences Po - Columbia for the Columbia part, unlike me.) While she did become more open-minded, it just goes to show that your parents aren’t always necessarily the most reliable resource when deciding which college you choose. Take their suggestions into account, of course, but it is your decision to make. I’m certain it would be extremely difficult, but you should follow your heart.

A professor (at Georgetown, holler!) that I just met taught me yesterday that there will be an unending series of forks in the road - major decisions we’ll have to make in our lives - in which we must choose our path. He said there is no right path. But whichever path you choose, MAKE it the right path. And I think that’s a great way to look at it. You can’t make a wrong decision (especially with such a great school already accepting you), but make the best of the situation you decide on.

@AllisonNelson I applied to Walsh too! Fingers crossed. And Congratulations on your Hoya acceptance!
@HectoraB Congratulations on your acceptance too! It will be a hard decision for me too. My parents are split: one in favor of Columbia’s dual program and one in favor of all 4 years spent in the US. Pomona is an excellent college and ranks #1 on Forbes list ahead of Williams and Princeton. Not bad at all :))) Or do they want an Ivy? What is the reputation of Pomona in your country? Where are you planning on pursuing your career? My personal impression is that Columbia is more renowned internationally than Pomona though I noticed lately that Pomona, Williams, McKenna Claremont and similar colleges are getting more and more popular internationally. You won’t go wrong with either

@vossari congrats on your many acceptances too! That’s impressive.
@AllisonNelson wow!! That professor’s advice at Georgetown is so true and make me want to go there!

@DualDegreeSeeker @AllisonNelson thanks so much for your advice! I really like the advice of the professor. Well the thing is that Columbia really famous and have a great reputation here in China and it’s an Ivy. But anyways it’s gonna be a very hard choice to make, and I know that it will sure shape my future in very different ways.
Best of luck to everybody!

@dowzerw I’m Greek and live in Spain  What about you?

@DualDegreeSeeker Thanks! Where have you applied to? Mostly US?

@vossari Yep, all US colleges. Boston College, SUNY Stony Brook, NYU, Georgetown and 3 ivies.

@DualDegreeSeeker best of luck to you with all your applications

@vossari Greek and live in Spain. Cool! We are Americans living in the US. Nothing exotic or interesting.

@dowzerw there’s always something interesting about everyone

Has anyone heard back about decisions? Any confirmation about whether it will be on the 25th this year too?

Nope, do you think it’s a good idea to email the office and ask them directly?

Does anyone know if they announce that they will be releasing decisions the day of?

Hi all,

You will hear back by April 1st.

Best,
Laetitia

@HectoraB seeing as the official date for releasing them is April 1st on their site, emailing them probably won’t do much good. If we hadn’t heard back by then then it would make more sense.

@GSTourGuides thanks, I was just wondering if anyone had a concrete date.
