Started to look into this, but I know this board will cut my time in half.
A. Do many freshman have them?
B. Rental price at around $300/month seems steep. Is this amount correct?
C. Seems like a better idea is to buy one, price ranges seem to be $1000 and up.
D. Also seems like a good idea to get a rack to tie things to.
Any if would be appreciated
From what I’ve heard, many people who have scooters on campus get into accidents. I don’t know if it’s because there are a ton of young people on campus or if college students are bad drivers, but I think it would be a better idea to just buy/lease a car. If that’s too expensive and you happen to live near campus, I would think about getting a bicycle instead.
It appears many of the scooter riders live just off campus and use them to commute. My daughter has been able to get around with just walking and an occasional bus ride. She never needed her bike and brought it home over spring break. The bike would have been handy had she had a time crunch getting between classes but that has not been an issue.
300 a month is not a good deal!!!
Here’s a link to a dealership in town.

You can get some scooters for less than $1000 I think (can’t say how good they are). $300 per month seems steep, granted I don’t know much about scooters. A lot of people have scooters but far from the majority. I would advise against it, they are dangerous, even if you wear all the safety gear. Most people here wear half helmet at most which isn’t nearly appropriate for the risk that one carries when riding one in my opinion.
When we visited in March I couldn’t believe the number of scooters there were, and that almost none of the kids using them were wearing helmets! There is tons of traffic in some of these areas and I was really horrified, lots had two kids on them when the scooter looked like it could barely hold one. I’d say don’t do it. My daughter will be walking and riding the bus.
Amen. I’ve seen the same thing when we’ve been on campus. Not sure really how helpful they are anyway if living on campus, especially considering the parking issues. By the time they can park they could have walked.
