Hi! I am currently a junior in high school and I am looking at applying to the University of Pennsylvania! I have read about their Score Choice Policy and I have a question on it. Last year, as a sophomore, I took the Sat II's in World History and Chemistry. I was in an Honors Chemistry course, but the class moved fairly slow. On the SAT II, I got a 600. For World History, I received a 550, as I was in an online class (which did not work well for me). But, on the AP test, I got a 5, so does that help at all? My main question is that will I be penalized heavily for these lackluster scores?

Sorry for the long post and thank you for your help!

It depends. Generally, make sure you have two strong scores that tie well with your career/concentration interests. I had a bad us history score, but wasn’t planning to major in history; I still was accepted to wharton. The 5 will help a bit to compensate in the case you are applying as a history major. As for chem, it shouldn’t hurt too much; maybe take bio or another science if you’re majoring in science.

It depends on your major. Penn does not accept score choice policy, and ,as far as I know, you have to submit all of your SAT and SAT II scores.

If you want to major in Chem or World History, it will definitely hurt you.

Hi, thank you for your responses! I am interested in majoring in Biology, and I am taking AP Biology this year. I know Chemistry overlaps with Biology significantly, so would having a great SAT 2 and AP score in Biology offset the Chemistry score somewhat?
