Score report

Just registered for the SAT. On the admission ticket there is this area: Score Report Recipients. Blank. Do I select recipients BEFORE taking the SAT? (This is the first time I'm taking it)

You can, but you don’t have to. I’m not 100% sure on this, but I think that if you choose where to send in scores during registration, you’re allowed to send in a certain number for free. Of course, the risk you run with that is bombing your test and having to deal with colleges seeing your worst, instead of your best, scores. Good luck!

Yeah. They gave me four free score reports. Wasn’t really sure. Thanks!

You don’t necessarily have to choose 4 schools during registration – they give you until usually a week or so before scores come out (so you’d still have to choose before you know your score)

If you’re unsure about if you want to send them, the fee for sending them after the deadline for free reports is $11. So you save $44 if you send them in free and you get a good score which you want to send, but if you think you bombed it then it might be the wisest choice to wait until they come out.

This is a tough one. My daughter knew she was only going to take the SAT once because she hates standardized tests, but did not sign up for the free score reports. She did really well, and now I’m paying to have her scores sent to the colleges she chose. Grrr…

My word of advice is that if you generally do well on standardized tests, go ahead and pick four colleges you’re interested in. If you think you will take it again if you don’t like your score, then wait. Keep in mind that many top colleges don’t allow score choice, though, so if you choose to send them your scores, they will see all of them.

i would wait and just pay to send in the scores later unless you are in a very pinched financial situation, unless the schools you want to apply to require you to send in all the scores

Unless you really think you won’t do well I would go ahead and send them to certain schools because certain ones don’t score choice and many of them super score anyway. You will save about $40 doing this. If you feel insecure, send them to your safeties.
