Hi everyone! I find it so annoying that Georgetown makes you send all of your test scores. Does anyone know why this is/how much they care about the tests you didn’t score as well on? For reference, I am applying to their nursing school and I did well on my first SAT but then after that, it went downhill and I did worse and my text 2 tests. Do you think this will negatively impact my application?
I guess the good news for you is they no longer require 3 SAT subject tests (which was more tests than most schools required) but yes Georgetown seems to care more about test scores than other schools. Good luck.
@thecannibalkid - What were your scores? While you may find it annoying it does provide the school more information that may help in their decision. Let’s just say for discussion sake 1470 is above the 50% point for Georgetown
Student A - Took the test once and got a 1470
Student B - Took the test 4 times and got a 1300, 1350, 1400 and 1470.
Student C - Took the test 2 times got an 1100 and a 1470
Student D - Took the test 3 times and got a 1470, 1450 and 1460
Now pair that information with everything else you know about the student. HS attended, Parents Education, Essays… it helps to put the scores into context. I don’t think there is much difference in student A vs student D. You might look at student B (who went to an elite prep school) and assume he had extensive tutoring and his score might be inflated. You might look at student C and question if there was any fraud with a 370 point increase.
Remember your scores are just a single point in the application, between your grades and your scores they are looking to see if you will succeed with the demanding curriculum. What will make your application successful is how well you demonstrate through your ECs, your essay, your LORs and any supplemental questions why Georgetown is a fit for you and why you are a fit for Georgetown
When we were in an an info session about 3 years ago, they said they had found that SAT Subject Test scores had the highest correlation to “success at Georgetown.” So, they study this stuff and clearly do place a higher-than-most importance on scores. (Interesting to read that they dropped the Subject Test requirement but also not surprising given the testing difficulties the past two years).
So, just put your best application forward, and know that ALL of the other schools you are applying to you can send only your best score!
CollegeBoard does not offer subject tests anymore.
aha! Glad I am out of the loop on those LOL
