Scores or Art supplement? What's more important to Stanford?

Hey guys,

I've got a question: Stanford has a policy of accepting regular decision applications containing the arts supplement to have an unusually early deadline of Dec. 1st. I intend to send them piano recordings - however, the early deadline is a slight problem.

I'm going to do three SAT Subject Tests in December which will probably be 800s (French, Spanish and Latin - as of now I have Math II and Bio M). Thus, if I take the Dec. 1st deadline in order to be able to submit an arts supplement, I won't be able to use these probably excellent scores.

What would benefit my admission more? Submitting the piano supplement or being able to show off my knowledge with three more SAT Subject Tests?

Skill level in piano is high, so I'm guessing the arts supplement is going to have a positive impact on my application if I send it. The question is what makes the bigger impact: additional excellent SAT Subject Test scores or the arts supplement.

I really can't get my head around this, any input would be much appreciated!

Thanks a lot,
-euro

If you’re taking the SAT’s in december, I don’t see what the problem is. On the common app, you can list scores that you’re taking in the future. If you list Stanford as a recipient for scores, they’ll take note of that and wait to make a decision until they can review your file in its entirety for RD. You submit your piano supplement early so the music department can review it for skill/artistry level.
In short, I don’t think you have to choose. Submit your common app by december 1st noting future scores and you should be good to go.

I asked this question to someone working in admissions, and they said that art supplements, unlike test scores, can only help your application. However, scores are more important holistically.

That being said, why not do both? Just send the December scores to Stanford before you even receive them.
