Scores to get accepted into Oxford?

Hi, just wondering what scores accepted students to Oxford have. I plan on doing ED to both Emory and Oxford but really expecting to get accepted into Oxford more, but I’m not really sure what scores you need. I have a 29 ACT and a 1370 SAT and applying ED. Than you!

You can’t expect (you can hope for or think you have a good shot) anything, but you are about average for an enrolled student at both (slightly above for Oxford), however you are below average for an Emory ADMIT and maybe only average (slightly below for Oxford). The stats at the two are actually very similar now (Emory’s class of 2019 enrollees had an SAT average of 1365 and Oxford had 1336 I believe. class of 2020 for main campus at Emory may hit 1370-1380, closer to Emory’s peak year).

The difference is that most schools below the super elites aim high in terms of admits knowing they’ll shave off some 10s of points from their middle-50 ends (or ends of the interquartile range). Both students typically end up with a student in your range. However, without knowing your EC’s it is hard to tell if you are a better than average candidate. Being average stats wise when compared to enrollees and below average for admits puts you in an iffy territory if you’re ECs look like everyone else’s.

Also, be very careful this year if they are not using a supplement as part of the app. process. Making applications easier tends to result in more applications and Emory for the past few years has somehow bumped up its app. numbers to a new area (hovering around 20k and somehow able to get slightly better stats despite app. number fluctuation) despite the bad PR of like 2013 and earlier and a harder application process (the addition of more nuanced supplemental essays other than “why Emory?”). If the admissions office is as effective as before, more folks may apply to Emory, even for ED because the app. is easier and makes the school look more accessible. However, like I said in another thread, if there is an effect, the biggest changes may be seen in RD app. numbers (where Emory becomes the “why not?” app as opposed to a match school for those aiming for elsewhere).

Oxford enrolled its largest class ever this year according to Emory website. My daughter wrote the extra essays (required for merit aid I think) but applied RD - She submitted SATs and I don’t recall her composite score but 2 of her 3 scores (3rd being writing) were over 700s and she had high honors at her competitive school and a ton of leadership. It seems her new classmates at Oxford mostly have variations of the same (as do the kids at Emory and all the other “top” schools). I’m glad I’m not an AO!
