Hi! I am not from the US and English is not my first language, but I am going to take the SATs in the near future (in a month actually). I am concerned about the CR section because I'm very good at math and most colleges that I want to apply to don't care about Writing. I am aiming for 500 maybe 550 on the CR section and I was wondering what should I do to get that. I am struggling with the passage based reading. I do the questions that ask for a line first and I leave the other to do them if I have time, but I was wondering if that is enough. Again, I am not aiming for 800, any score between 450 and 550 would be good.

Yeah, the vocabulary is annoying for non-native English speakers. In fact, I’m a native English speaker and didn’t know some of the words. I think they’re revamping the SAT to put less emphasis on vocab. In the meantime, just do your best.

You can also take the TOEFL, btw.

The ACT doesn’t have vocabulary if that helps

I’m also a non-native speaker; I’ve scored a 460 when I took my first SAT. I’ve circled almost 22 incorrect ones and thus decreased my raw score by 5~ which means a waste of 50 points. Look, I had the ability, but my score doesn’t reflect that.

Find which questions give you most pain and which ones your’e comfortable with. Now use your full time answering these comfortable questions so that you can stay assured that your’e not losing more than a point for incorrect responses. Do SKIP that hard questions on which you’re most likely to mark a wrong choice. Even after skipping almost one-third of total questions, you can end up with a 600 provided that almost all of your responses are correct.
