I heard from someone that the hospitality program (School of Continuting and Profession Studies, Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management) at NYU is third in the nation, but I can't find any hard facts or proof to back that up. Does anybody know where I can find the rankings? thanks. Also, I heard that the GSP program was part of SCPS before, so does that mean SCPS isn't very good? Also, how tough is admissions? THANKS SO MUch. =]]

bump............

anybody????????

Just thought I would let you know that I found you to be quite critical of SCPS.
I'm a transfer student from Boston College (Carroll School of Management) to NYU. I'm currently double taking info. sys management as well as hotel management. Bear in mind that SCPS is known as a professional school within the umbrella of NYU. It's more career oriented, and has an excellent faculty.

Also, you have to take an admission exam to get admitted. Stop fussing about how SCPS is inferior to the rest....... it's still NYU. WE ALL PAY THE SAME TUITION. N IT"S HELL A LOT OF MONEY... everyone at NYU doesn't care who belongs to what division.. everyone is an NYU student, with the same privilege to access all the resources

i doubt what you just said...at least from what i know around with the kids in scps hotel, they have a 4 day weekend and their stats were inferior to the rest of nyu. they get A's in their major class, but they get killed in general ed classes at cas/gsp. i am not trying to look down, but compared with stern/tisch, you can get in with lower stats. i guess the admissions is more focuesd on your personal activies that is related to the area of your pusuit of major.

also, since you are a transfer, you might not have a good grasp of nyu, but it really is a divded school under one brand NYU. every school has its own prestige. and for ex. with school, there is a different email domain and stern gets the own computer lab etc. its just that you pay the same tuition

FYI ZANGETSU,
With the grammar that you have, I have no idea how you even have the slightest idea about how NYU is all about. As you mentioned you have friends in SCPS, you're still an outsider after all man. I go there, I understand the shared resources that are granted to all, and sure! stern has its own computer lab - it's because the computer lab is in their own building. Throughout the campus, and the resources and career centers, every single NYU student has access and the privilege to take advantage of all as a whole. Get your information straight before you even blurt out insipid things. AND yes, that is why there is an admission exam that you need to pass to get into SCPS.

Get your facts straight

FYI: EVERYONE:

EVERY SINGLE NYU STUDENT PAYS THE SAME AMOUNT OF TUITION: NEARLY $35,000 yearly and that alone does not include living on campus. GETTIN INTO NYU IS ONE QUESTION, SURVIVING IT AND DOING IT WELL AND NETWORKING EFFECTIVELY is a different BALLGAME. so ZANGETSU, even if u get in, can u afford to come here? talking about inferiority, it's still NYU dumbass.

you probably didnt and couldnt even get into any of the NYU division. is that why u hold much criticism? it's alright man, go to a community college or something, and IF you get into NYU, then we'll talk. for now, just stay shut until you have factual information.

well i am in stern.

and yeah, i believe you are right so let's just cut it. i was just sharing my knowledge as an outsider of scps.

There's no reason to start a war here over 'who has their facts straight' and who's an outsider. This is just a forum in which everyone pitches in to help out. If somebody made a mistake based on judgment, there's no need to try to degrade that person to make yourself feel better. Especially if you're an actual NYU student, you should know better - it's impossible to get all of the crap that they tell us straight half the time.

I don't necessarily think that the difficulty of getting into a specific school at NYU depends on its selectivity, rather, I think it depends on how well your abilities/experience/interest match with that school. For example, a student applying to Stern will probably have great stats for Stern, solid supplements on why they want to go to Stern, and tons of ECs showing their interest in business. That same student would probably have a hard time getting into SCPS, regardless of their GPA/SATs because their ECs and essays aren't geared towards that school. It's all about you personally, so judging each individual school based on "how easy it is to get in" is probably an inaccurate judgment.

Absolutely. I agree. Therefore, I was agitated by the fact that some person on this forum had the nerve to degrade a student who attends SCPS.

Shadow of Wind- I don't think password was trying to criticize or insult SCPS. All she meant was that she didn't know much about it and wanted to find out more. Please do not get so defensive or offended over a such a small issue.

The website is updated! It looks like a much more appealing now =D

B.S. in Hotel and Tourism Management | New York University - SCPS

Curriculum: Degree Requirements | New York University - SCPS

yeah. I just happened to go their site a couple weeks ago and it was sooo much better!. thanks =]

Their "teaching hotel" concept/ program sounds awesome. I guess those hotels are for NYU SCPS as "Statler Hotel" is for Cornell.

boston university has a similar program and a "teaching" hotel kinda thing. I actually read BU's program and really liked it, especially since they have a really big study abroad program in the UK which sounds cool. I think BU and NYU's program are gonna be pretty good pretty soon cause they're both in big cities =]

I highly doubt that a some Stern students will have difficulty getting into SCPS. Come on now

My friend got into SCPS with a 1780 on his SAT’s. I am not putting down SCPS but he told me that all his classes were easy and he has a 4 day weekend. I don’t think he would have received A’s and B’s in any classes at Stern.

We only live once, and if by the grace of God during that time have the opportunity to live in one of the most culturally rich and diverse cities on the planet, then on top of that be part of an institution such as NYU allbeight scps stern or a janitor sweeping the halls then my friend you are not doing that bad. Why look for the bad when the good is spilling over the top of the glass onto the table and soaking the latest edition of The New Yorker?

Hi guys, I got accepted in Boston U, NYU and EHL (in Switzerland) for their hospitality program, but I’m torn between all three (since each school has their own attributes). Can anyone give any feedback/comments on either of these schools? Thank youu=]]
