So until the 2nd quarter of this year (10th) I had a 4.0. Then I screwed up big time and got 3 Bs and a C. And then this quarter I screwed up even bigger and it looks like I’m gonna get 5 Bs and 2 As.
I have all honors classes and 1 AP. Is there still hope for me to get an impressive GPA, and I know Sophomore year matters a lot so are they gonna hone in on those bad grades?
So, several points:
1/ Calling a B a “bad grade” is just disingenuous.
2/ Almost all HS transcripts show only final grades or (less frequently) semester grades; few show quarter grades. How each HS calculates GPA is a different question which you need to ask your GC.
3/ In line with point 2, strive to bring up your grade for Q4, and this may help your final grade
4/ How much a college will “hone in” on your grades really depends upon the college.
- Figure out why your grades dropped.

- Colleges look at your final year grades....and not to worry...There is a college for you!
In my county, the grading system is by semesters. It also weights more for the quarter than the mid-term or final. So if I get As for both quarters, I could get a C on the mid-term. If I got a C+ in a quarter and get an A on the other quarter and midterm, I would still get an A. It all really depends on your county. If you happen to go to public school in Broward County, Florida, then we have the same system.
