HS Grades

I’m currently in my SOPHOMORE year of high school in Florida, and I’m stressing a lot about my grades so far. Grades are to be submitted tomorrow and I’m going to end up with 2 C’s for my FIRST QUARTER grade. My current GPA is 3.2 weighted. Will my chances of going to a good college be ruined now? The classes I’m taking are :

2D Art - A+
Chem Hon - C
English 2 Hon- B+
Health Science - C+
Ap World History - B
Precalc Hon - B

I am also wondering if college look at quarter grades at all or is it just the semester and end of the year grades that really matter, also whether colleges take into account of what classes you are taking. With all my friends taking the “basic” grade level courses and are achieving A+ in most of their grades I feel sadden and discouraged.

No, you have not ruined your chances of attending a good college, you just need to work on improving your grades especially Chem and Health science. The others you could also try to bring up to an A, but it might just take a bit if extra effort. A quarter grade can always be rectified by the other quarters and final and midterm exams,

You quarter grades aren’t considered. Colleges only look at your semester grades. If you get all A’s next quarter and do well on your midterms, those C’s won’t show up on your transcript. Also, continue to taking more challenging (AP and Honors) classes. Don’t pay attention to your friends taking easy classes. Colleges like to see students take more rigorous courses.
