And you know this how?
I sent your previous response to my sons GC—-who has worked at his Jesuit school for twenty years getting kids into SCU and the like,
Her response was a smile and a simple “told you so.”
Best of luck to your daughter, May she find happiness wherever she ends up.
Not sure if you expect me to respond but you did ask. I know this because I have friends whose kids are at Catholic high schools and they know that what differentiates each of the kids at the school from each other when it comes to admissions is what the kids have done above what’s required. If you have to do it for graduation it doesn’t show you want to do it or took initiative to do it. I’m not at all saying it’s not a good thing and I’m sure colleges like when kids volunteer but, when you get to a certain level of universities, they will want to see more than that. I don’t know SCU all that well. We are in the Midwest and not many kids apply there from our school so I do not know what kind of student gets accepted. My comment was just a comment that, in general, 15 hours of required service a year is nice but doesn’t say much about the candidate.
Dear Gooey2003,

Thinking that decisions will be released this evening?
Comical considering how volunteer hours are not going to make or break an admission decision in most cases

I’m not really understanding the issue here. But I guess the discussion about volunteer hours doesn’t really belong on this thread. I’m a long time poster here and I think my posts on this thread have been measured and fair. Seems some new posters have joined and are hot under the collar about my comments about volunteer hours. I’m not some crazy parent. Just a parent who has learned a lot about admissions and was trying to share some advice I’ve heard over the last few years.
Moving on - decisions likely tonight…

Every school I am applying to has a whole bunch of parents acting like you know everything.
It is hilarious.
The fact is no one on here knows what is up.
So sit back and enjoy the ride…you all need some meds:joy:
