It was a gradual thing. We were not looking for all kids to be the same. Jesuit, which is Catholic, should welcome all kids, regardless of whether they were traditional or not, and no kid should be bullied because they are one way or another. The bullying which our dd did not disclose until things were very bad, was unidirectional towards the kids who were traditional.
Can you define traditional? Do you mean socially conservative? Particularly religious?
Neither. Female who was attracted to males.
She was bullied because she is straight? That has got to be a very specific problem she had…with maybe one roommate or something. I can’t imagine many kids there think you have to be gay or bi to fit in. Ridiculous.
Interesting how quick you are to judge others. My post was simply to allow parents to be aware. All kids, regardless of how they identify, should be accepted and bullying should never be allowed by any group against another. I am sorry you disagree. Good luck to your family and I hope they are accepted for what ever they are. I agree it is “ridiculous” for any kid to be judged based on their attraction.
I"m not judging anyone - just saying that your D’s very unfortunate experience cannot possibly be something widespread on campus. I’ve never heard of any campus anywhere where straight kids aren’t accepted. What I’m trying to say is that your D had a very specific experience likely with a very small group of students.
Does anyone have any insight as to when SCU will release EA decisions?
last year was 12/11, so I hope that means we will see answers next week but haven’t seen anything for sure yet.
Last year’s EA results were announced during the second week of December. A lot of things are different this year, but I would expect to see some EA results rolling out starting second week of Dec.
Best of luck to all the students waiting eagerly!
so excited! It will be D21’s first decision!
when you say rolling out, do you mean they didn’t all come on the same day?
I’m not sure if they all come on the same day or not. After you asked this question, I went back to SCU 2019 EA announcements thread and checked - they all came out on Dec 11th. So, may be you are right - they all come out on the same day for SCU.
My D has gotten a few other acceptances and all those colleges didn’t have a ‘specific’ date on which EA announcements were made. They were just rolling the announcements over several weeks. I assumed the same for SCU - but probably not. Different colleges do it differently.
Yeah I think it’s all at the same time. They don’t do rolling admissions. Pretty soon now!
I just want to point out that people can be “left” and not be gay. And you can be gay and on the “right.”
I wouldn’t call the Santa Clara area a hotbed of leftist or gay culture, but maybe that’s just strictly the students on campus.
But I’ve lived in the general vicinity a long time and been to the campus many times and I’ve not heard (or seen) that about SCU.
Our friends’ daughter who just graduated is straight and thankfully did not have the same experience as introduced in this thread. It’s hard when the fit isn’t there. Reminds me to have my S check out the student feedback online for his schools (with a grain of salt).
I think I over emphasized fit when it came to both of our kids’ college searches but I just think one can’t do their best work if they aren’t comfortable and happy outside the classroom.
Does anyone know if merit info comes with decisions or if that comes later?
doesn’t the website say end of Dec for EA?
I’ll quote myself.
BTW, the 49ers are playing tonight’s home game, normally held in Santa Clara, in AZ.
So how SCU is handling the latest lockdown, which started last night, is anyone’s guess. The City of Santa Clara and Santa Clara County “take no prisoners.”
Yeah not good for selling kids on Santa Clara if they haven’t visited already. Not looking like prospective students will get on campus this spring but I hope I’m wrong. If things get better by April, I hope they’ll have a way to visit for kids who want to see it. Not SCUs fault but CA is just so locked down.
