Hi everyone, I’m an applicant to SDSU and wanted to ask a quick question. Is SDSU rolling admissions? Or are decisions ONLY made on one certain day. Thank you all.
SDSU has in the past years admitted High stat applicants Mid-December and then start rolling out the majority of acceptances in February which can continue through end of March. Most CSU’s will send out admissions in a similar manner. Several of the UC’s will do all their decisions on one day in March.
@ Gumbymom, when you say “high stat applicants” is there a certain threshold for that or is it kind of just a general term? If we sit a few points above SDSU’s average in terms of ACT and GPA do you think we’d be considered “high stat”?
A competitive EI threshold for SDSU is above a 4100 for the SAT and above 1000 for the ACT. My younger son was above both these thresholds when he is admitted in December a couple of years. Also many of the applicants that are admitted in December are also invited to apply to the Honors college.
When do you hear about the honors college? I just got accepted today, would it have been included in my acceptance letter?
@lizg23: Honors college is a separate application and you can apply even if you are not invited.

@lizg23 - Have you applied to the Honors College? It is a separate application. Usually, if you apply for Honors by the priority deadline of January 15th, they’ll inform you by mid-February. In the past, I know there have been specific exceptions to that rule and the students were told in their December acceptance, but those exceptions were for certain applicants who were competitive for a specific scholarship. I don’t know if they are doing that this year. Unless told otherwise by the university, all interested students should to apply by January. http://newscenter.sdsu.edu/dus/uhc/application_information.aspx
Seems like all the acceptances are out of state. Do they typically accept in-state in December?
@3kidsforcollege - Historically, they accept local/in-state applicants with high GPAs and test scores, and/or competitive/higher EI thresholds in mid-December. On another SDSU thread, I’ve seen a couple of posts about acceptances from in-state applicants with 4.0+ GPAs. Most acceptances are sent in February/March.
Got accepted .in state…just got the email.
Daughter accepted and invited to apply for honors. Live in state
My parents got a phone call from an admissions officer today urging me to complete the merit scholarship application. I live in state and many others received responses back today. The AO didn’t say anything about my admission, though. Would they wait to receive my merit scholarship application before accepting me?
@4four4 - If your statistics are at the level that your parents received a call from the Merit Scholars folks, complete and send the scholarship application ASAP. Outstanding program, and it is getting stronger every year.
If you haven’t received an acceptance from the university and you received the Merit Scholars call, I would definitely reach out to that department and say exactly what you wrote here… that your parents received a call from the school urging you to complete the application, but you haven’t heard back about your admission status, and weren’t sure if you should wait to send in the application until you were officially accepted. I share this because sometimes there can be issues with email and the WebPortal, and if there is a glitch, you want to make sure it is corrected. Applicants with Merit Scholars stats usually receive their acceptances in December, so they have time to complete the application. There is a specific person in Admissions who is in charge of the Merit Scholars program, so you or your parents would want to talk with him or the staff member assisting him.
My son was accepted yesterday and invited to apply to Honors College. We are in state and in San Diego as well.
@Fish125 Thank you. I received an email today congratulating me “once again” for my admission into SDSU and telling me to apply for the merit scholarship, which is odd because that was the first I’d heard of my acceptance. Plus, my portal still has my admission status labeled as pending. I’ll be sure to complete the scholarship application and look into it. Thanks again!
@4four4 - That is odd. There has to be some sort of glitch with the system and your portal. Be sure to schedule your personalized campus visit for Merit Scholar applicants soon. My son’s personalized tour was really amazing, and gave him a glimpse of the university and faculty that he had never seen before.
My DS just got the acceptance mail . no invitation.
