SDSU Early Admission Decisions?

Hello everyone, I’ve heard that in the past CSUs have released admissions decisions earlier than the usual March notification time period to students who are potential candidates for their honors programs/are strong applicants. Is this true? And if so, when are they usually sent out?

Last year SDSU early acceptances came out Dec 14th. Since SDSU has gotten a record # of applicants this year again, I am sure they should be posting soon. The early acceptances are High stat/Honors college invitees and OOS High stat applicants. Majority of the decisions will be in late February through March.

@Gumbymom thank you! Do you happen to also know what kind of stats these applicants would have? Like in terms of GPA and SATs?

Here is the link from last year’s decisions and stats. You will notice that the OOS applicants overall had lower stats than in-state applicants and most likely due to the extra tuition that they pay as an OOS student since all CSU’s and UC’s will benefit from these full pay students.

@Gumbymom Awesome! thank you for the quick response.

@Gumbymom Sorry! One more question: are nursing students generally notified later?

Nursing students unfortunately are notified in March (at least that has been the trend for the last several years).

I’m an OOS applicant and just received my SDSU acceptance today!

I got my acceptance today as well!

I am a freshman nursing student and we were all notified last year on the same day the last week of February. We were the last major admitted!

@hemingways I have twin OOS cousins, one accepted on Dec 18 and the other hasn’t heard. The one accepted has an EI of 4700 (4.1 GPA and 1420 SAT) Chem major. Her brother, who hasn’t heard, has an EI of 4300 Aerospace Engineering major. His GPA is only 3.4 but he has a 1540 SAT.

@davisgirl hey thanks for letting me know! A lot of my friends were accepted this week haha, bummer that we’re last to find out! Do you know why?

@hemingways Yes. I was devastated when I did not get in last December. But then I asked my aunt is who is a counselor in San Diego. She talked with the SDSU director of admissions at a conference., It’s because your friends were accepted this week by a computer program that accepts everyone over an certain EI. Nursing is the most competitive major at SDSU. The admissions process requires human review using their factors. They have to look at the pool of applicants and how many positions are available. For the past 3 years since SDSU starting the freshman entry nursing program in 2014, nursing students hear starting at the end of February. All admits are notified on the same day. All waitlists get notified next and then rejections. What are your stats? Where else did you apply?

Hey everyone, I received a San Diego State University acceptance a few days ago and I’m pretty confused. I could have sworn I did regular decision, so I don’t know why it was so early. I’m a bit concerned as I’ve already confirmed for another school and I have very little interest in SDSU (it was a backup). My major put was “Art pre-major”.

Most likely it wasn’t based on any choices you made during the application process. Some applicants receive early acceptances as described above in post #1. The acceptance isn’t binding and may simply be declined if you’ve SIR’ed elsewhere.

@davisgirl my EI is 4830. Do nursing students still have a chance at the Honors College since we did not receive the invitation in December?

@hemingways Yes, but i don’t know any freshman nursing students that are doing the honor’s college Not sure why you would want to. Our curriculum is very structured. We are assigned our classes by the nursing school advisor. Starting sophomore year we spend many hours in clinical starting at 6am. When you get accepted, you can talk to the nursing advisor to see if you would want to do the honor’s college.

@davisgirl oh I see. That makes sense.

@davisgirl I also have another question: generally, how large are your class sizes at SDSU?

There are are huge lectures for chem and biology freshman year, but we have TAs for discussion section. Starting sophomore year we start clinicals, so our class sizes will be smaller.
