SDSU Appeals 2021

The basis of the appeal is important and usually involves showing the applicant is a stronger candidate than at the time of application due to new and compelling information. Getting good grades Senior year is not a valid reason. All Seniors are expected to maintain good grades for their provisional college admissions and all the applicants are reviewed based on their 9-11th grades, not Senior grades.

All majors are impacted at SDSU and some more than others like Psychology. The bottom line is there a just too many qualified applicants for the limited spots. Nothing against your daughter but unfortunately that is a fact of college admissions. You are welcome to submit appeal but I see no real reason that the appeal committee would have a reason to overturn their decision unless you get support from the Cheer Coach.

Just wanted to let you know that the appeal packet clearly says, “Do not include letters of recommendations or honors received.” I would not encourage your daughter to include letters of recommendation in her appeals packet since it says not to. Good luck! I hope she gets in!

Has anyone heard on their appeal status. My daughter submitted hers 12 weeks ago, and has not heard back. She does have a compelling medical reason for her grades dropping 1st semester of Junior year. She called when she was denied, and they told her the reason was because of her Math grade 1st semester of Junior year. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I just heard back about my appeal this morning. My appeal was not accepted.

For reference:

Psychology transfer student; 4.0 gpa and in-state. I was originally denied because they ran out of space. My application took longer than others because I had international coursework from Canada. They strongly encouraged me to appeal. I didn’t have to explain my grades in my appeal, so I explained my strong volunteer experience and more of my character as a community member. That didn’t seem to do the trick.

It’s very disappointing, but I am relieved to finally get an answer. This whole process has been really eye opening and frankly, really frustrating to wait so long.

I wish your daughter so much luck! This has been such a challenging application season. I strongly believe she will end up where she needs to be.

Thank you, I too strongly believe she will end up where she needs to be. I am sorry your appeal did not go through.
