SDSU Appeals Fall 2018

@tottenhamboi18 what happens every year ?

@tottenhamboi18 oh the # of appeals statement! thats good news. How do you know many people rescinded this year?

@tottenhamboi18 - where are you getting that information? Do you know what the SAT / ACT cut off was this year? Did it alter by major? Was GPA not considered then? My daughter is not a strong standardized test taker. She was denied admission, we are waiting to hear back on appeal. She does have compelling extenuating circumstances.

@tottenhamboi18: ACT/SAT are not the only basis for “early acceptances (Honors college invitees)” since a high CSU GPA is also needed. Why post Honors college statistics including GPA if it is not used?? Early acceptances are based on CSU GPA and test scores which determines the eligibility index.

Applicants are then ranked based on EI and major.

Also I think you are confusing rescinding admission with declining admission. Being rescinded means you have been accepted but your admission is no longer valid due to inconsistencies in your final transcript, receiving D’s or F’s in Senior year classes or missing important documentation deadlines. Declining an acceptance means you make a conscious decision to not enroll.

Do you hear back from sdsu whether you got in or not? If youre denied again will u still be notified?

Also , does the 6 weeks start from when my appeal was received, or when I got the email saying my package was complete? Sorry for all the questions just anxious!

How long should we expect it to take to receive any notification that the appeals package is complete/being reviewed? My daughter’s was delivered and signed for 4/20. She has called twice just to make sure it’s in the system, but it wasn’t in yet. She was told not to worry as long as she had the tracking number for it having been delivered.

@gumbymom you are right in some way that SDSU uses the EL to determine admission, however this year there were more applicants from my school who scored very high on SAT and ACT but did not have the high GPA to accompany it. There is a first round of admission that is determined in a short amount of time (November 30- Decmeber 20). The only logical explanation is the glance of in-state applicants and their test scores.

Additionally, the word rescind has a couple of meanings but in this case, you are right, what I was referring to was the influx of people who did not accept addmission; which is better for the appeals and waiting list

Has anyone heard anything lately?

@momisanxious one girl got in from my school off her appeal, but she had connections with someone in admissions

@Cat420 must be nice to know someone in admissions! Good luck and keep us posted! Crossing fingers for all of us!

@cat420, the girl from your school found out already that her appeal was approved?

Yes @xpeachpie

I just got the letter from appeals today, unfortunately I didn’t get in due to “the overwhelming level of applicants”. My GPA was a 3.1 from Miramar as a transfer in ISCOR. Don’t give up hope though, I filed an appeal in December as a late applicant due to an extenuating circumstance - was hoping though being a veteran would’ve helped but apparently it didn’t. Best of luck to the rest of you.

@HMinus I’m very sorry :frowning: did you get an email or just a note in the mail?

@Cat420 I received a very generic, half paragraph letter in the mail.

My daughter received a letter in the mail today stating, “…Appeals Committee received your appeal for admission to the fall 2018 term. We appreciate your interest in attending SDSU. Unfortunately, due to the large number of applications we received for fall 2018, there were a limited number of enrollment spaces available. As such, we are unable to approve your request.” Wishing everyone else the best of luck!

I’m sorry :frowning: this is so nerve wracking ! May I ask what the basis of the appeal was? @momisanxious

Just got my rejection letter in the mail  good luck to everyone else

@cat420, sorry to hear that. I still haven’t gotten my decision yet and I’m super anxious. what do you plan to do now?
