SDSU Chance Please

SDSU (San Diego State) is probably my #1 choice as of right now so I'm real curious. I feel like I gotta good shot but I'm curious what others think.
I am applying as a General Psych major.

Location:
In-State but out of local area (Bay Area for me to be exact)
Going to a high school ranked 209th in the nation (Something like 50th in CA) if that matters...

Stats:
SAT
1290 CR+M
670 Math
620 English

ACT:
34 Composite
34 English
33 Math
33 Reading
34 Science
10 Essay

GPA:
3.6ish or so
Have taken the hardest classes my school offers through all 4 years.

Any help is appreciated.

Since CSU admissions = all numbers, you just gotta look at the most recent avg. stats available.

Your ACT’s way above average; it should really boost your CSU index, which is what the computer uses to admit applicants. Your GPA seems lower, but I’m assuming you posted your unweighted; CSU’s look at your CSU-weighted GPA, which should be higher. I’d say it’s a safety.

Ok, my only concern is with just how popular the Psych major is at SDSU. It had 3000+ applicants last year with only about 1000 people getting in so little less than 1 in 3 Psych Apps get the go-ahead.

You have a good chance for acceptance at SDSU.
What is your CSU GPA? <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU;
If your Eligibility index is above 4100+, you are in good shape.

EI= (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + SAT CR)

SDSU: Match

“It had 3000+ applicants last year with only about 1000 people getting in”

I don’t think that will be an issue for you. You gotta look at the context of the applicant pool. I think that most people applying to SDSU, for example, do not have an ACT of 34 or even close. Since it’s all numbers, you should be relatively at the top of the list & get admitted easily.

You really should get in… i would give you about a 99% chance. I know a guy that got in easily with less than a 1700 on the SAT last year.

If you look at the common data set for SDSU Freshman 2014, only 5% of admits had ACT scores in the 30-36 range. You are in great shape.

Wow you have great test scores. I wanna major in psych too now I’m a little nervous.

@Alyssaaa
You interested in SDSU too?

Yeah I am, also as a psych major! I have wayy lower test scores than you but a little bit higher gpa. I think you’ll definitely get in!

I’m sure we’ll both be fine :slight_smile: We got this! I read up that SDSU usually notifies people by Late December-ish if you’re lucky. We can do it, just gotta believe ya know?

you have a solid gpa and stellar test scores. i did not do the exact calculation but your CSU index will be around 4300 which is way above average for sdsu (Index found doing gpaX800+sat score, make sure to convert your act score to an sat score) if i had to bet i would say you have no problem getting in, good luck
