SDSU Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

So sorry :frowning: but you’ll end up where you’re meant to go!

Hopefully soon. Unfortunately I am not privy to when decisions are coming out.

I just noticed in SDSU’s estimated cost of attendance that they are saying room and board will be 19,330?!? This appears to be a fairly sharp increase from past years (unless I’m misremembering – I don’t believe this was the estimated cost from last year). Tuition increased as well. Now, there is only a couple thousand dollars’ difference between SDSU and UCSD. Crazy.

It’s expensive to live in San Diego!! And I believe it’s still a pretty big difference in cost to go to a UC vs a CSU

If you look at the prices for the housing and meal plans, they vary from the cheapest meal plan/triple of around $16400 to $21100 for the most expensive meal plan/ single. The $19000 is probably an average. SD is very expensive even off campus. My son was paying $800/month rent his share with 3 other roommates for a 2 bedroom apartment.

I understand, I live in San Diego!

Here’s UCSD’s cost of attendance (from last year - they apparently haven’t updated their page): Undergraduates Cost of Attendance (ucsd.edu)

Here’s SDSU’s cost of attendance: Estimated Cost of Attendance | Office of Admissions | SDSU

I realize it’s an average, but I’m fairly certain it is a higher average than in past years. I’m trying to find some estimates from past years, but haven’t been successful yet.

OK, I went back to look at my records from last year for my D20, and I had a word document that compared room and board for all the colleges she applied to. For SDSU, I had 17,752. That’s a pretty big jump this year (to 19,330).

eta: tuition has also increased from 7,510 last year to 8,136 this year.

Yes the costs have gone up. I paid around $15000+ for the cheapest meal plan and a double 6 years ago.

My oldest kid is a senior at Berkeley and it’s been around the mid $30k for tuition and rent per year. I would estimate $35k per year. That’s still a lot more than a CSU, no matter what city it’s in.

I was only comparing UCSD, as we live here, and for local students, it’s a big issue if the cost of attendance for both universities is virtually the same.

All the UCs are relatively the same

Actually, UCB is more expensive than UCSD: Student Budgets (Cost of Attendance) - Financial Aid & Scholarships (berkeley.edu)

But maybe a difference of around 4k doesn’t make a difference to some?

In other news, my D21 was very grateful today to receive notice she received the Merit Scholarship to SDSU. :relaxed:

All UCs are about the same and quite a big difference from the CA state schools.

Congratulations to your daughter. This should help with the SDSU costs if she plans to attend.

I was surprised to find out how much SLO was even though it’s a state school. S21 was accepted here but costs are 29k. I pay about 34k for my s19 at ucsc. Because the UC aid is better we actually will be paying 6k more out of pocket for SLO than for Santa Cruz if that’s where s21 decides to go. Something to think about.

Any ideas when more decisions will come out? Thanks

Congratulations to your daughter. What is she majoring in? Great to have a Merit scholarship, the cost is just so outrageous when there is no aid given.
