I know that SDSU is supposed to be one of the better CSUs, but, how well does it compare to the UCs. I know that it isn't as great, but why?

It’s probably better than UCM, but that’s about it. Generally, UCs have more resources and more prestige. Prestige equals “better” faculty working for a given university. And since UCs are more competitive so are students, which also correlates with being more successful, and donating more money to a given university. It’s sort of a vicious cycle. At CSUs, you have a lot less of that.

I think Cal Poly SLO is very competitive with the UCs other than UCB and UCLA. Its applications were massive this year. Of course, so were everyone else’s!

^ it’s below UCSD too imo. And maybe at least a notch below UCD. SLO’s endowment is TINY compared to many of the other UCs. (UCSD:+550m; UCD: +750m; SLO stands at ~150m)
