What would the difference be, between having a UC and a CSU on your resume. Would going to UCR be better for my resume than SLO or SDSU?
And how would you rate quality of education, between the lower UCs and the higher CSUs.

bump to the top

SLO is supposed to be at the same level as Uc Davis and Irvine...so I guess SLo is better than UCR

i think SLO=Davis, Irvine, and SB.

But other than that, all UCs are more highly reguarded than CSUs

SLO is definitely not on a par with Irvine, Davis nor SB...but, depends on the major.

It probably depends a lot more on what you want to do and how well you do than just the name.

Cal Poly SLO does have its advantages over the UC's. For one thing its geared towards undergrads, vs the UC's which tend to focus more on graduate work.

Based on selectivity, SLO is on par with SB and davis. All three have averages around 1250 and 3.9.

Cal Poly SLO = UCI, UCSB, UCD

SLO is a special case, because it is known as a very good engineering and architecture school. If you are in one of those majors, I think it would be a very good choice. If you are not in one those majors, I think UCR would be better on your resume in terms of getting into grad schools. I know that SDSU is also one of the top CSU's, but I'm less familiar with any programs that are especially known there.

So If I plan to do busines. I should do UCR instead of SLO or SDSU

Actually business is one of slo and sdsu's strong points. The only reason i'd go to ucr is if i were going into a liberal arts field like english, history, etc.

Check out the situation and environment all three schools. They all have potentially worthwhile studies in business. UCR is more all around strong, and might be better if you aren't set on business, unless you would be really happy at SDSU or SLO. All three can be great, but I'd say, in general, the highest quality school is UCR, then SLO, then SDSU, although that might not be the case in business, or in particular fields of business study. Check into each business studies program, because some might allow different focuses, and some might not.

As in undergraduate I would much rather attend SLO than UCR. A lot of that is I like the SLO location more than the UCR location.

As for which one would be better on your resume, it's hard to say. Both of the schools are regional. So in NoCal SLO is better known among most people than UCR. In SoCal UCR might be better known. SLO clearly has the better students though.

Hmmm, is it clear? How so?

I would also rather attend Cal Poly SLO than UC Riverside.

DRab- SLO's avg. SAT is about 150 points higher. SDSU's is also significantly higher, and that's one of the reason's i'd pick one of those schools.

What if I threw University of SAn Francisco into the mix. How will the rankings go between USF and the other three schools.

Yes, SLO does have higher average SAT scores, and SDSU does, too. I don't know if that would sway me, though, particularly if I were to partake in UCRs Honors program. For engineering or architecture, SLO probably has much stronger programs, but UCR has more resources. Maybe you'd get more attention at SLO or SDSU, but the attentoin would probably be of a higher quality at UCR because they get a higher quality professor. They each have their better areas, and SLO, and Riverside, and San Diego are great places for different people.

Just wondering, why do you think UCR gets higher quality professors? Wouldn't higher quality professors want higher quality students? I understand UC's have more resources, but the CSU's focus more on teaching, which is what some professors want to do. CSU doesn't ahve nearly the research requirements for tenure that UC does.

OP- USF would probably be at the bottom of this list. I like the school and love the city, personally, but the rankings and selectivity just aren't there. It's a tad too expensive for my taste, as well.
