SDSU or UCR

As if right now I narrowed myself to attend either San Diego State or UC Riverside as a biochem major. Which college has a better program for my major? Also which one in your opinion is better overall? I’m leaning more towards SDSU at the moment.

The best school and program is where you feel the most comfortable and happy. A happy student has a far better chance for succeeding. As a Biochem major, what are your future goals? If you are leaning towards research, you should check out the research opportunities for each school. If you are interested in Pharmacy, then both UCR and SDSU have very good Pre-professional advising centers.

What are your future plans? If you plan on just getting your Bachelor’s then I would say SDSU. More internships and jobs in San Diego for biochemists. If you plan on going to medical school then I would suggest giving UCR a better look. UCR gives it’s own medical school applicants an edge making it a bit easier to get in. Go to both universities and talk to any of the biochemistry academic advisors. Ask them about to student-to-faculty ratios and how their program helps students find great jobs. A low ratio can make it much easier to get the classes you need for your major as well being able to personally know your professors. In terms of location, SDSU is obviously the winner there. As a UCR student though, the campus is quite beautiful during the Winter quarter. It only gets hot here during the first few weeks of Fall quarter and last few weeks of Spring quarter.
