UCR or San Diego State

I’ve been admitted into UC Riverside, UC Merced, San Diego State, CSU Monterey Bay and am still waiting to hear back from Cal Poly Pomona. Based on where I’ve been accepted, I am leaning towards UCR and San Diego State. Which would be best for me as a Biology major?

If you can afford UCR and don’t mind the quarter system and location, I’d go there.

@UCBChemEGrad‌ Do you by any chance know how both schools compare in terms of research and just plain prestige in their biology programs?

By design, more research happens at UCR - because that’s their mission. UCR has a nominally better reputation but, wouldn’t be worth the difference if budget or simple preference sent you to SDSU.

They are very different. Tour both. After that, I bet the decision is easy.

If you are targeting MED schools after graduation, research is not priority, clinical experiences are. Nevertheless, the opportunities for clinical is better at UCR because they have a medical school and hospital. However, SDSU is well respected in bio field as well. It is a toss off, if money matters, go to SDSU.

Thank you all, I’m still contemplating where I want to go, but I’m still researching both schools.

My son had the same choice last year. We visited both campuses in two days. He chose SDSU. He loves it there. Lots of very highly qualified kids at SDSU.

Good Luck with your decision!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I picked San Diego State.

Congratulations!
