SDSU vs CSULB for a history major

Hello this is my first post on cc but I am caught in quite a pickle. I am a first year freshman college student at csula but due to certain circumstances with the budget cuts I have been allowed entry into two of my top cal states, long beach and san diego. I want to become a history teacher at the high school level but would love to teach history in general. That being said I have heard wonderful things about both schools but I am wondering which one really is the best for my major.
Some sidenotes about myself:
I am going to have to dorm no matter where I go
I am quite a party pooper (anti drug/alcohol) for myself
Lived in la area my entire life

Then there are some other pros I could talk about that apply to each school but they are more so fun things like an interest in certain clubs at lb and being near my long term relationship in sd but these are non academic things...

Lol I'm psyching myself out please help.

SDSU is more reputable in general and has much more opportunities for job experience and training in different areas.

It’s a big school and does have the stoner rep. but there are plenty of serious students there. There is a big nursing program for example. People who really know what they want to do and are commited to their studies. There are also a lot of athletic and beachy type students there who don’t want all those drugs/alch in their bodies.

CSULB is more limited in activities and academic programs.

CSULB is not known for it’s history or teaching but I “think” SDSU has a teaching program, might wanna double check that.

There’s tons to do in SD, we have the city and the outdoors.

CSULB freshman have to go thru a lottery to live on campus. There are alot of commuter student hence less campus activities. Off campus apts housing in LB is just dirty and dangerous.

The drive from sdsu to csulb w/out traffic is an hour. SD -> Disneyland 1.5 hours.

San Diego airport is right nearby with shuttles and stuff. Amtrak station in Solana Beach can get to it by bus. So it’s really not that from LA.

In SD we also have tons of low performing grade-schools in really bad shape. In the past 5ish years they’ve been experimenting w/ turning some into charter schools or magnet schools. To make this change these schools rely on college students as tutors and mentors— tons of opportunities for teaching and guiding experience. Teachers are literally begging for college students to help in their classrooms.

---------- Look online at these schools: Lincoln, Gompers, Preuss,
----------Also look at college catalogues for how many History or EDS (Education) classes are typically offered. Read thru the class descriptions and see if they are what you are looking for.

sorry for the rambling post

I go to SDSU and I love it here. Yes, there is definitely a drug/alcohol and big party scene here, but its not like you have to get involved. I know a lot of people in my hall who don’t party at all or do drugs/alcohol. As a sophomore next year, you would still have the chance to room in the dorms as Chapultepec and Cuicacalli are popular among sophomores.

Now academically speaking, I think SDSU would be a great choice as well. We’re one of the top CSU’s and becoming more and more desirable every year. I know last year they received over 60,000 applications. I was in a seminar this semester with the head of career services and he talked about how good coming out of SDSU looks to employers in the area too.
