Hi. I got in the BS-nursing program at Seattle University and the aio-nursing program (which is the pre-nursing program) at Stony Brook University.
If I go to Stony Brook University, I am not sure when will I be able to enter the nursing program, and the tuition was really high. My parents really want me to go there because they knew SB’s rank is high than SU.
If I go to the SU, it was a four-year program, the tuition is fine since I have the scholarship.
For me, I don’t really care the rank that much. I am more focus on the community or environment. I knew SU is much smaller than SB.
I don’t know Stony Brook at all, but Seattle University seems fantastic for nursing, you will get great experience with their relationships to local hospitals and med centers. From what we saw when at SU several times, the nursing community there appeared to be very tight knit. That seemed to be a strong emphasis of theirs. Seattle is a great place to attend college, very young and hip - great public transportation. Clean living, beautiful area with all the perks of urban living. Safe around the university.
Stony Brook is a great school, but not if you are OOS and are taking the chance that you might not get into the nursing program, then I would recommend the other school.
I agree with the previous answers. SBU is indeed a fantastic school for the sciences, but keep in mind that when it comes down to it, a nurse is a nurse no matter where you go. I would take SU since the tuition is lower and you’re already guaranteed a position in the nursing program… and if you plan on getting a master’s, then it really doesn’t matter which of the two you choose. One will not provide a significant advantage over the other because it comes down to how you yourself perform.
But of course, that is just my opinion ^^.
Best of luck to you, and congratulations on your acceptances!
