I applied to vandy and i am currently going to ga tech. last semester i got a 3.6 and i now have maybe a 3.1 or 3.2. I still have to wait a week or so until i get a letter, but do you think if i got accepted that they would renege their offer due to a gpa shift??

I guess my main question is--how much do second semester grades count?
I guess that I omitted that I am majoring in Biomedical Engineering and I am currently a freshman.

I guess this might be completely irrelevant, but I know at least with regular first year admissions you really have to try to actually get your acceptance rescinded. If vandy accepts you, I highly doubt they're going to unaccept you unless you fail one or multiple classes.

He's not in highschool, he's at Georgia Tech and looking to tranfer to Vanderbilt.

To be completely honest, I think it may decrease your chances, but definitely not elimate them. Make sure the rest of your app is stellar.

does anyone have any experience in this?

Failing certain classes, depending on how many and how critical they are to your major, is grounds for rescinding admission. To be more specific, anything is the D-F range is pushing it.

Even though you may be accepted, poor grades in the semester before transfer will hurt your graduate admissions (if you're planning on go to grad). If you want to go to a great grad school...better make sure that cumulative GPA is stellar.

You will not have your admission revoked because of half a point shift in your gpa. Don't worry about it.

obviously he's at georgia tech... that's why i mentioned that my contribution might be irrelevant

thanks for the help

You're fine. As long as you have above a 3.0, especially in engineering, you should be fine. A 3.6 from GT is awesome, and anything above a 3.0 is great.
I'm at Virginia Tech, so I understand the whole notion of weeder classes and grade deflation. Everyone has always been telling me "3.0, 3.0, 3.0" since we're at suchmajor engineering institutions. So do the admissions offices. Good luck :)

so now that i may have a 2.9 because of crazy freaking linear algebra and such, does anyone think that i still have a chance of my acceptance not being rescinded?

i know that this is obnoxious to bring this up again but can anyone help???

2.9 might be pushing it. You need at least in 3-range to be confident. But if you have 30 cr. or less they'll probably look at you high school records as well. (I'm in the process of transferring in Florida, so I read all the rules thoroughly - make sure you do to). If you had a great GDA and SATs, maybe they'll overlook your little slide - but I still suggest you bring it over 3.0!

GPA* and STAs

grr....SAT*

thanks for the help

better stop sleeping and get going on raising that linear alg grade up

haha i know... the guy who wrote the book at our school isn't even going as fast as our teacher is...
