vanderbilt

I had pretty average high school ranking with a 3.7 gpa, at a really competitve school. I did lots of ecas and held leadership positions and was an eagle scout too. I want to transfer to vanderbilt, but i don't know if i can. I had horrible sat scores (590V, 630 M), and now I am currently at Ga Tech in Biomed Engineering. Please help me out...i really want to go there.

What's your current gpa at GTech?

I think that i will have a 3.5 to a 4.0
at the end of the semester

Vandy should be doable....probably a matchy-reach.

what if i do my sats over again? i signed up for them and the sat IIs...soon i am gonna study hard how much will this help?

I think it will help. Your GPA at Ga. Tech will be very strong. My S was admitted to Vandy as a transfer with 710M/610V. If you could crack that 700 mark with your math score (assuming you are going to stay in a science/tech field, I think you would have a good chance.

Also, great recs from your college profs can go a long way.
Good luck.

so...i might now have a 3.2-3.5...school gets exponentially more difficult with time...how much can i make up for this with essays? i am starting the transfer app now. i just need to know what to do...no one at school wants to help you go somewhere else.

okay, so 2 questions....1) does it look better that i tried to get in last year, and i am trying again? and 2) what do i need to do now? what happens if i get a 3.2 or 3.4?

Don't worry about how it looks that you tried last year. It certainly can't hurt.

Focus on doing the best you can in your current classes. Talk with TAs/profs or whatever it takes to get the best possible GPA that you can. Whatever your GPA ends up being, go for it with your Vandy app. Work on the essays, choose profs who will write a good rec for you.

Good luck.

If you want someone to review and comment on essays, I'd be glad to via PM.

I kind of knew this was going to happen. GTech is known for being horrendous with GPAs, so much so that they send a disclaimer with transcripts when students apply to grad and professional schools.

thanks jmmom i appreciate the help

i am gonna have a 3.5 at the end of this semester. i still really want to go to to vandy, but i don't know if i can get in. i have been doing other stuff, like big brothers/big sisters, training as a dj for the radio station on campus, and other stuff. i am on a scholalrship for rotc, so that takes up a lot of time too. i am starting a school club for the humanities for next semester (everything is almost done)....will any of this help? i don't think that i will hurt my sats by taking them this weekend...

Is Vanderbilt any Ivy?

Nevermind...its not.
