By no means am I discussing the information on the test, I am simply wondering if the “experimental section” counts towards your score.
Mine happened to be extremely tough, and I don’t believe I did well so that’s why I’m asking.
was there an experimental section called “experimental”? i cant imagine it counts
After seeing this post, I googled “SAT experimental section”. In spring 2017, some kids who did not take the essay got a 20 minute section after the Math with Calculator section. College Board says it does not count towards the score. They are testing new types of questions. That being said, it was suggested that kids don’t just blow it off. I read something about, if the student does well on the rest of the test and then bombs the extra section, it might be a red flag to CB that the test wasn’t a good one. I cannot even imagine how they would determine that.
S19 isn’t home yet from the test so I don’t know if he got this section. I had no idea it even existed to warn him about it. At least it was at the end of the test so it shouldn’t have affected the first four sections of the real test.
@senior2018xx What did your proctor say? Did he introduce that 5th section in any particular way?
my kid took the test with essay and i havent had a chance to ask about it. will report back.
D just got home from taking the SAT w/o essay, her 5th part was experimental math and the proctor said it was experimental.
D guessed (meaning she ran out of time) on 12 Writing questions, 6 critical reading questions and 1 each on the math with and without calculator. She put B on the questions she guessed on.
She said the test was hard.
I’ll be honest, the test seemed a lot harder than the ones I’ve taken in the past. Kind of worried.
@homerdog in the beginning of the test itself, my proctor said there are some experimental questions at the end of the test (section 5) she did describe them as harder difficulty and said each form has a different type (reading/writing/math)
All that our proctor said was if you have math questions then you must answer questions 13-15 in the grids. They never said it was experimental. Thank God it was math calculator problems, my strong suit.
@kimclan1 ours did at the beginning of the entire test. Mine was reading. I wish I got math.
No, it won’t count. I had math (+ calculator) & it was pretty easy #:-S
