ACT fifth section???

I took the act today without writing and there was a fifth section on it for science. Someone please tell me this section wasn’t graded! I didn’t think t was and went through it every uncaring and probably missed a majority of them. Now I’m freaking myself out.

I’m pretty sure it was just to test out new formats for each section. It won’t affect your score.

So you mean there were the usual four sections (math, reading, writing and language, and science) as well as an additional science section?

@Lindagaf yes

Probably experimental. I wouldn’t worry.

Definitely experimental. The on-line instructions state that students might be asked to do an experimental section after they have completed the test of the exam. It won’t have any impact on your score.

I hope they clearly stated that the fifth section was experimental, instead of saying that one of the two science sections would count. This is how SAT used to administer their experimental sections where the students would not know which section was experimental. This was to ensure that they took the test with full effort.

I am not sure what is the point of an experimental section where the students know that it won’t count towards their score, no one will do the section with any serious effort making it useless for gathering data. Oh well.

@QuantumACT they did say that it didn’t count but after I left I kept freaking myself because I thought I screwed up.

@pitt2021

Don’t worry about it, especially if they said it will not count. Looks like a lot of other people also received the experimental sections. What I don’t understand is the point of these sections if everyone knows that they don’t count, the data that they will get out of these sections will be completely garbage. Oh well, they must have some logic.
