Security Clearance form

One question, anyone have any idea if a speeding ticket for 5 over will affect my status on the security clearance form under "pending police reports". As i got it 2 weeks ago and will be cleared up by my lawyer over plebe summer, it is only a 115 dollar fine.

Pretty sure you have to report that. At least for USAFA, you had to write down anything (even speeding tickets) and if you got any between then and I-day, you had to call and report it. Not sure how USNA does it, though. Speeding tickets may have an effect on certain jobs, because there's a time-to-clear.

I believe the Security Clearance form only asks about traffic violation tickets over $150.

You are obligated to disclose. A failure to disclose jeopardizes your admission. Why would you want to take that risk considering how far you have come? My son also received a speeding ticket which we got reduced. We disclosed it and even attached a copy of the citation to the form.

I would be stunned with disbelief if a speeding ticket alone would affect the clearance you are applying for, which will be CONFIDENTIAL. You most likely will not be getting a SECRET clearance unless you go out on a submarine patrol, and that won't be until 3/c summer. Even then, a speeding ticket is nothing.

However, you SHOULD disclose it, just so there is no suspicion that you are trying to hide anything. Other than that, don't sweat it.

When we went to get our daughter's police record stuff...here in So. CA when we went over to traffic...I asked for a record printing. She has no tickets, etc. The form they handed me said : "all fines on this account are paid and nothing is due." I looked at it and asked the person: "Wait a minute, this seems to indicate that she DID have a ticket or fine, which she never did." "I know", the clerk said, "but this is the ONLY form we ever print." Know what we did? We didn't send that form in.

But...that does hint that what record checks for USNA are looking for are outstanding stuff and even if my daughter had your speeding ticket,if she cleared it before I-Day we could submit that same form and that would be that.

I weigh in with the others. Report it, pay for fine and move on.

I entered it on the security clearance form under "pending police reports" should I contac the admissions office or my admissions officer?

It can't hurt, I suppose. They'll probably tell you not to worry about it.

No, I would not call the Academy. As long as you disclose it on the form you will be safe. By contacting them you simply highlight the issue further.

This seems like the thread to ask this question on: Anyone know about how to get a copy of past traffic violations? I got a ticket last year for failure to reduce speed, and on all ROTC applications I've started tell to include all the info about those. The thing is I only know the charge, infraction date, and court date. I threw the papers away after the court date, as I just wanted to forget it. Now it seems that wasn't the best idea, and I don't know where I can get copies of that stuff.

Zaphod....I believe it said on the Security Clearance worksheet that the purpose was to receive a "Secret" Clearance

For a Plebe?

Am I misunderstanding the purpose for this thing, or have they simply changed these things since my day?

Come to think of it, this IS post-9/11..... Hmmm......

From what they told us....the form we fill out is only a worksheet. Its purpose is to gather information that we might otherwise not know. They said that the end of plebe summer we will enter all of that information into a computer and make it official. And then.....who knows???

plebes are not given a security clearence. However the only time you will ever have a clearence while you are there is cruises, or those of us priors that already have one.

I honestly don't think that having a ticket can jeapordize anything in any way. I would imagine having multiple tickets might raise a question... seriously, how many people do you know who have gotten tickets? I'm best friends with some of the brightest people in the school, and I'm the only one without a ticket as of yet... *knock on wood.

JL2010:

Just wanted to confirm what you said. It is only to gather info. I had to fill out the exact same thing when I reported for NROTC, then in January we had to enter all the info into this OPM computer program. Because I worked a summer job for the past 6 years, it took me about an hour to enter all the stuff in the program.

Apparently they started the investigation on me on Feb. 14. But they're gonna have to start all over with the USNA info. I thought the DoD was trying to reduce duplication?

I would not be worried about a ticket. I have had several in my lifetime and I have a clearence. Just make sure you say hey I got a ticket. They really don't care, just don't try to hide it.

I received an alcohol related ticket last semester and still received an offer of appointment. Just make sure you tell them that it happened.
They know kids make mistakes, just make sure you learn from them.
