I was visiting a friend at GW the other day and it appeared that there were secret service at different points on campus. Is that the norm because of the high profile speakers on campus? If you can't be safe with secret service around, where can you be?

It's also a reflection of how close the campus is to the White House, the World Bank, and other governmental offices. Wait til January 20th !!

The secret service is a part of everyday life in here. As for JAn 20th, the visitors are to have an photo ID in order to be admitted to dorms, etc. It is expected to be tighter thzn ever. Love I have a place to sleep in such a historical time!

Due to it's close proximity to The White House, the State Department, The World Bank, The IMF, and a couple of nearby embassies the GWU campus is quite possibly one of the most heavily patrolled pieces of real estate in the United States. I believe that at parents weekend they told us that there were more than a half dozen different agencies watching over the area. Still, like any big city, a student needs to have a healthy sense of situational awareness. I feel as though my daughter is as safe there as she would be at any other university campus.
