I came by my History Teacher's classroom today to thank him for writing his recommendation letter for George Washington University (I got in), he's been probably the best teacher I've had all of my school career.

It was a 15 minute chat, mostly congratulatory, we talked some soccer and whatnot.

Anyways, what kind of got me thinking is when I was leaving he was just like:
"Hey,man, when you're done with this college mess (when you're 21) I owe you a beer, you did a good job."

I mean I can actually see this guy as one of my friends, like a bro or something, in a few years.

I'll probably stay in touch with a few of my teachers...they're more like my friends than my teachers. I think it's more common than most of us think. :) Teachers are people too!

I will probably talk to my teachers after I graduate, expecially seeing as how my freshman english teacher threatened to follow me to whatever college i go to.

Whenever I'm back in town I still meet with a few of my teachers. My old AP Chem teacher has an open invitation for me to drop by her house and chat, and when I drop by in school she lets me hijack class and talk about Materials Science for the rest of the lecture.

One of my old teachers from elementary school is actually a somewhat friend of the family, so now and then she'll even drop by to see how things are going (she actually showed up to my high school graduation to congratulate the fifteen or so of us out of the class of 750 that had her around ten years before).

My dad became a teacher around six years ago, and he says one of the most rewarding things about the job is when a kid you had a year or two ago sends an e-mail with an update of how they're doing, saying how they miss his class, or thanking him for teaching something that wasn't on the curriculum, but because he thought it was important.

A while back, a friend of mine and I were chatting, and we agreed that when we hit 21, we want to go out drinking with our Quiz Bowl coach. (Oh, God, if that isn't the apex of nerdiness, I don't know what is.)

There are a few teachers I'd like to keep in touch with/see again. I certainly won't shed any tears if I never see my physics teacher again, but some of them have been really special, helped me a lot and are just all-around awesome people, and I want to keep in touch with them.

I have some teachers whom I'd love to keep in touch with, so I think it's nice when students keep in touch with teachers, especially if the teacher made an impact on them.
